• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Take it to any good car audio accessories store and they should be able to program that.

Are you saying you have this product installed on your Telly that member CJ_313 posted? If so can you provide more detail on the product and its usage

No I took that right off the description that was posted. I didn't even open the link.

Fortin One system has been used by another poster in the Remote Start thread. But, months ago, they didn't have a wire harness. On Fortin's website, it doesn't list availability for a wire harness for the Telluride. This kit looks universal, so its unlikely to be plug and play with Telluride, but it will probably work with a professional installation. Fortin | Bypass modules, remote starters and alarm systems

It seems so. If I were buying, I'd contact Fortin directly. Other listings from same seller are same pic with different vehicles. You can search Fortin in the forum to find poster who installed it last year.

This is a little frustrating and makes me think that the OEM Remote Start is not all that valuable. I read on several Palisade forums that you must first lock the car before the remote start will engage and this has tripped up many owners. I also read this is the case in the 2021 Kia Seltos. For safety reasons the doors unlock when you are within a set walkup proximity of the vehicle and gives you something like 30 seconds to open the door. I believe the Kia unlock function states you must be within 32ft for "optimal range" and you have about 30secs to open the door. Even if the lock works at a longer line of sight like 33-80ft (Toyota advertises their OEM remote start works within "80 ft of open space") limiting the remote start to having to lock the door makes the system pretty useless if you are at work and want to warm up the car in the parking lot or get the AC started or you have your car parked at a distance while you walk up to it. Most aftermarket systems sell different control units that range from 500-5,000ft without requiring you to press the lock button. The more expensive ones are a longer receiving range but they all use the same fob to transmit the signal.

As for the Fortin info, there is a T-harness it is just not plug-n-play (I think it is the same that they use for the Sorento). About a year ago I went to a local installer who has a system that shares the same information that Fortin does to include the Wirecolor information. I just checked the link above and even though we can't access Wirecolor's portal without an installer login the file is still a year old. So I think the systems that use that harness are still a splice and dice install. It appears they still don't have the plug-n-play T-harness yet. The installer I spoke to told me that that when they have the plug-n-play they would include two instructions one for the T-harness that requires splicing and one for the plug-n-play and that's when he can give me accurate pricing. At the time he had to give me a ballpark number to do the splice, but if it's plug-n-play he could provide a more accurate estimate the labor because they had a fixed hourly install rate and estimate they applied to plug-n-play.

The only advertised plug-n-play harness that I have seen that looks promising so far is the 2020 KIA Telluride Remote Start Kit - PUSH START ONLY

Based on this 2021 Kia Telluride Manual, the system being added is the same as the Seltos and the same as the Palisade. You have to press the lock button before pressing the start and the range will likely be the same as the unlock/lock function.

If you need to extend the range:
1. Hack your receiver to put a larger antenna
2. Touch the key fob to your chin with your mouth open and maybe it works but you risk looking ridiculous

Update: I just decided to convince my son to try a MythBusters/HackMyLife type experiment. I parked my 2020 Kia Telluride at the top of the driveway and got to about 565 ft direct line of sight before the key fob could no longer lock/unlock the vehicle. Then we both tried taking a few steps back and touching our chin with the fob while pressing the buttons and it didn't do anything. So our conclusion is that while the manual suggest 32ft for optimal range that is far from maximum range if you have nothing else in the way. So presumably if the 2021 is about the same range and you have direct line of sight you can likely press lock and remote start and it should work. We also concluded that at least at 567' with no obstructions, touching your chin with the fob does nothing but make you look silly in front of your neighbors.

My key fob is only about 16 months old so I think as the battery ages the effective range may decrease. I think they last about 4-5 years depending on use.

If anyone is interested in trying another method, I found this video and maybe another method works better at ~570ft.

There is one other hack that I have read about. The 2020 Kia Telluride key fob takes a standard 3V CR2032 battery. However, CR2016 batteries are half the width and also 3V each. So you might be able to replace the single 3V CR2032 with two CR2016s to give your remote 6 volts of power and supposedly that more than doubles the range of the FOB. I'm not ready to try that as if it goes bad it and fries the fob it will be much more expensive than a few coin cell batteries.

I think majority of Telly owners could care less about remote start range. They just want it specifically for two reasons:
  1. Don’t have to pay $$$ for UVO subscription
  2. When you look outside your window at home, you can start the car in 10 seconds versus fumble with the slow app for 2-5 minutes
Most remote start modules come with the long range remote included, but I personally don’t like having to carry an extra remote fob on my keys if I can avoid it.

Third party remote starters (Viper/Python) also offer subscription services to remote start via apps for a lot cheaper than UVO.

Agreed. I have remote start on all my vehicles but rarely use it. The main reason I want it on the Telluride is that it's an easy way to lock the car and leave it running.

When we travel in winter in ND/MN and need to make a bathroom stop for example, whoever's driving can leave the family in the car and leave it running with the doors locked whether it's hot or cold.

I know I can pop off the cover and lock it with the key but I don't trust that thing not to shatter at -10°. Our Honda has an exposed key slot. I'm sure that detracts from the styling though! 🙄 I don't notice...

I need to give UVO credit where credit is due, just loaded the app to remote start. Only took my 6 seconds to log in with touch ID and send the command. Then took about another 30 seconds for the car to start.

The app has certainly improved since I got the car 6 months ago. I am also using WiFi and the car probably has good cell reception at my home too.
