If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I'm looking to purchase a Telluride sometime this summer and am wondering about the timing of the new model year. When does Kia generally start taking orders for a new model year? I'm guessing it's sometime in the summer but those of you who have been watching Kia for a while can probably chime in with better info than just me guessing.

Fall 2020

Fall 2020

For delivery in 2021... ha. Maybe 2022.

Why are people so concerned with the 2021 model year? I think they don't quite grasp that Kia released a 2020 MY in March... quite early... so that will run it's course through at least next year and 2021 would only appear sometime in late fall of 2020. Some people seem to think 2021s would appear in early 2020 - makes no sense.

It makes complete sense that Kia might want to start a 2021 MY (model year) in 2020 if for no other reason than to be competitive with other mfgs who are likely introducing 2021s in 2020. For whatever reason, customers always want the latest/greatest and if everything else is equal in fall of 2020 between two cars, the one with the 2021 label will be perceived to be newer. In the short term, the resale value of the later MY will also be higher.

And it may not be exactly the same car..... mfgs tend to bundle up small improvements and roll them out on the MY boundaries just to make inventory control, parts, service info, etc. manageable. Even if Kia is keeping the basic car unchanged, there may be some improvements under the skin. Or they may juggle colors, trims, option packages, etc. to meet customer preferences.

The fact that Kia rolled out a 2020 in March of 2019 may push them to also roll out the 2021 MY a little earlier than the typical fall timing just to not have the same MY on the market too long. By law, you're allowed to ship a MY for year X on Jan 1, X-1.

Kia introduced the current gen Sorento the same way they did the Telluride it seems. It came out in Early 2015 as a MY 2016 model and the MY 2017 version didn't come out until the fall of 2016 if my memory serves me correctly.

Agreed. I have an SXP on order and will take delivery probably early summer - I hope. But if they announced 2021's this spring for an early summer sale date - I would be tempted to move to a 2021. By April - the current one will have been on sale for 14 months...so bringing the 2021's a little earlier than normal would also help to keep demand high now that production has increased. I'm sure there are lots of people waiting for the second model year since demand is so tight and this is an all new vehicle.

The model years mean less than they once did. Certainly all manufacturers do major refreshes of a given generation at about halfway through that generation's life. On the other hand, it's rare that the 2nd model year of a given generation has any significant changes. A lot of manufacturers do revise parts in the middle of model years if they're seeing a lot of failures or other good reasons.

If this were the Telluride's 3rd model year, I might wait for the next one but 2021 won't bring anything really new.

If they call it a 2027 model, but it comes out this year, will that make you feel any better? 🤪
Yes, it's getting to be like the numbers race with cell phones - the higher the number the better it sounds.

Tom look around and search the forum. Dozens of threads on this topic right now as opposed to an old thread. GL

If you order a Telly at a mid sized dealer and you are 24th on their list you will receive your Telly in about a year or more. This is assuming that your dealer is allocated 1 or 2 SXP per month. This is not a hypothetical it is happening.

Kia needs to change their allocation or new buyers need to be careful to only order from high volume dealers.

Yes, we mentioned all this months ago. Kia's allocation system won't be changing... but fortunately, I'm sure some folks have dropped out ahead of you. Dealers should know how many vehicles they get and should only take orders that can fulfill a customer's expectations. Good thing you weren't in a hurry... probably won't see it until November! 1 year will be one of the longest wait times... hang in there!

Thanks, I also spoke to a local dealer . They said the only way you’ll know for sure is when you see the Kia 2021 telluride configurator on the website . I also called the Kia assembly plant and they said basically the same thing .

You guys need to read this thread for up to the minute information. Lol
Get you sum edu-ma-cation rather than this stale thread

The configurator is live on KIA's site. 2021's are in production and have been for a few weeks. Some 2021 orders went in this month - and I suspect regular allocation will happen next month on 8/15.

Glad to hear that configuration is live on Kia website . I just checked a couple of days ago and the 2021 configurator was only for the 2020 telluride. I’ll look again today.

I just opened the Kia website and you are correct . The 2021 telluride configurator is there .
You are correct . Thanks
