In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Pretty open to the design, looking to see if anyone has one that does the job well. Some reviews on Amazon for some of them say they rattle around, etc. (not on Telluride, just in general).

The platform is nice for multi use, but open to the hanging bike racks as well.

There are several other threads, but in any case, here's a good post by @JonFar111 that I remember. Maybe that's helpful.

Sigh, I even searched Bike Rack, but did not see a thread right away. Thank you.

I've put over 500 miles on my bike since Memorial Day, and I'm on my third bike rack so here's my $.02. I don't yet have my Telluride so I can't yet speak on the fit & clearance on the rear hatch yet but I'm hoping it'll work (more on that at the bottom).

A good rack is hard to find these days due to the influx of people looking for exercise options with gyms shutdown, most bike manufacturers are back-ordered through October. My local NYC bike shops were so cleaned out it literally looked like they were moving the shop or shutting down. I always assumed that Thule were the best but they can be pretty pricey and now even finding them in stock can be difficult, so I started researching.

My first one was this hanger type: IKURAM 2,3 or 4 Bike Hanger Rack
The link is for the 2 bike but they have a 3 & 4 as well. It was study enough and the brake/shifter cable cradle cutouts work really well but unfortunately with no down tube stabilization your bikes will sway in the cradle and knock into each other unless you bungie them up. It came with a u-bolt and plate that kept it tight enough in the hitch that wobble wasn't a factor, and if you don't mind having to use multiple bungie cords and/or padding to prevent scratches it would be my budget pick.

After returning the first one I decided to pay a bit more and hope for something better and figured that a platform type would be a better fit and more stable:
Allen Sports 2 Bike Folding Platform Rack
Depending on the shape of your bike frame this one might work well and it folds up into a nice small package when not in use. Honestly I would have kept it if it had the key feature I was missing out on: Being able to fold the rack away to be able to access the rear hatch while still having bikes loaded up. This seemed to be an elusive feature that you only get in the $300+ range. But I was patient and kept looking...

Well the third time's the charm and this is my current keeper: Swagman CHINOOK 2 Bike Platform Rack
I found it on sale for $155 but it took nearly a month to arrive. I've had it for a week and I really like it. They sell fat tire trays on their website if you need those. On my Grand Cherokee the rear hatch opens quite easily with the rack tilted and the bike in the rear position, and it should also clear if you have two bikes loaded which I haven't been able to test yet. When folded up it does make contact with the rear bumper fascia, but I have a foam pad that I put there so it doesn't scratch. I'm eager to find out what clearance is has on the Telluride but I haven't been able to find any specs on how receded the hitch is so I guess I'll have to wait and see.

I second the Allen products off Amazon. We currently have the 5-bike hanging rack and it's been very reliable for us (wife and three kids). We've hauled bikes on ~200+ mile trips with no issues.

I don't have my Telluride yet, but I have a really strong opinion on bike racks. After owning Saris, Thule, Yakima, and others ... I found the Kuat Sherpa a few years ago and I have been totally satisfied. Easy to connect, rock solid (both in the hitch, and bikes on rack), and super fast and easy to put bikes on and take off. Not cheap, but worth every penny.

Bike rack rattle is mostly at he insert. Simple fix with a bolt that also applies tension to keep the insert from rattling SOme bike racks come with such, like the JUAT>

THule is awesome, have had hrack style where bikes hang by the bike frame.
Kuat is better. Now have akuat tray stule where bike tire rest on a tray, Much less likel to mess up and have a bike come off and tons more security features than ahaning rack.

When not in use, a 2" Hitch frame NEVER causes noise. no more so than any other bolted securely to the vehicles frame "part" would cause, if it does cause noise, it is not bolted securely. simple as that.

Etrailer has a fes styles, Curt is very nice. much nicer than OEM hitch that I just saw at the dealership today. Cleaner install and does nto ahng down nearly as much.

There is a hitch called stealth. WHen not in use, it cannot be seen, when in use, ti hangs down about the same as a curt and both are much higher than OEM hitch.

I have a 1up bike rack coming. I just receding sold my Yakima dr tray and decided to get the one I wanted last time. Kuat, Thule, and Yakima are all nice but stock is going to be a bit spotty right now.

I'm likely going to get a hitch bike rack soon for my Telluride. I like what I've seen with the platform options.

I was thinking if I got a Kuat Transfer it wouldn't block my Telluride's back-up camera. But I think I'd rather have the Kuat Sherpa 2.0. Does anyone have experience with a platform hitch bike rack that doesn't interfere with the reverse camera when it's folded up and not in use?

I should hopefully be getting my Telluride next week so I'll test out Swagman Chinook 2 rack clearance/camera then and report back

My new rack finally got here so I'll install my hitch and let you know how the 1up works with the camera.

The Kuat NV base 2.0 is also looking pretty sweet.

And the Saris Superclamp EX 2 looks like it's very compact. But I see complaints of it wobbling too much. I think the Kuat NV 2 would be more stable. 1up is sold out till November looks like, so unless I find one used I may be out of luck there.

I sold my '05 4Runner within an hour of listing it on FB marketplace and the guy is picking it up from me Wednesday, and I'd really rather not throw my bike in the back of my fancy new SX. haha

Same here, selling my Jeep today but won't get Telluride till 9/22

Hi 21,

I took some pictures of my folded bike rack today. I have a Thule T2 Pro XT. Here is the image from the back-up camera when the rack is folded.
I have had it for a month and have been very happy with it so far. Very solid, easy to use. I take it off when not in use.

I cast a vote for 1up.

Most of the time I have it setup for a single bike. The tailgate is then fully functional (will not hit rack).

If going out and need two or three bikes, I add the extensions. Then I need to be careful not to pop open the tailgate with the rack in the up position.

Note that you can choose a single bike or dual bike option for the primary rack.Single maxes out at three bikes. Dual maxes out at four bikes. Family of three so single was the easy choice for me.

This is actually really helpful. I figured having this setup on the back of my Telluride would be a total train wreck for my camera's visibility but I'd say it's still functional. Probably just have to change settings so you're not getting a warning all the time when you go into reverse? How do you handle that? Thanks for the post. This is the kind of stuff I was hoping for when I commented.

I wish they weren't sold out till November. My favorite local bike shop told me they'll have some Kuat models coming in this week so I'll probably end up getting one of those. 1UP is an oldy but goody from all I've read. Wish I could find one used. haha

It is worth the wait. Trust me. No better bike rack that I know of on the market. Buy it right the first time and save money in the long run.

I get the warning beep when in reverse. I can turn it off manually, but I don't bother because it will be only for few seconds before I switch to Drive and the warning beep goes away.
The 1Up is a lot more more compact. Here is a picture with the 2 bike version I found on this website clearly showing a much lower profile than the Thule. I have no personal experience with 1Up nor Kuat.

Good luck,

I finally got around attaching my 1up. It doesn't affect the backup camera much.

I had to see how well the dad cruiser fit.
