Canadian 2021 Telluride

I am in the beginning/closing stages of purchasing a telluride for the wife and growing family. Located in BC and I have to say the dealerships in the surrounding areas are very hit or miss when it comes to deals and charging dealership fees and mark ups. I understand it is a hot seller and dealers don't have them on the lots but no deals, selling above MSRP (kamloops), absurd doc fees that are non negotiable is just outright nuts. Some dealership doc fees were anywhere from $500-$650 and then were trying to charge all these warranty/protection packages on top of it and to top it off we were referred to them. I asked one sale person what are these doc fees all about and he flat out told me "they are to keep lights on" so I told him why am I paying for this? he had no response.

Still talking to a few dealers on price and if they are not willing to move on price just going to try and get some things thrown into it since we will still have to wait for the vehicle to arrive.

Also has anyone ordered the aluminium skid plate for the telluride? I have seen I think one person from the states post on here that they have it on their telluride.

Currently in the process myself of getting a deal for the Telluride Nightsky edition. Have you tried to the email bomb tactic? It can help you identify dealers that will play ball and put them against each other in terms of pricing.

I am having success with this technique, in the GTA my current deal is 2K off of MSRP and 10% off accessories. No BS docu fees, admin fees, P.D.E fees, protection packages or what not. Trying to push the accessories for a higher discount and hopeful to put the order in soon.

Anyone here in Toronto that has booked/got one delivered in the last two months. I am having a hard time getting an ETA from by Dealer Toronto east, booked 2020 SXL w Nappa Apr 4th. All i am being told its Nappa models that arent available, all others are. One excuse after another is all i think it is ....

For general info, Kia Canada has a fall promotion on some parts and all Kia accessories, commencing Sept 18 until year-end, including 10% off on all Kia accessories.

Google "kia" and "fallpartspromotion" if this link doesn't make it through:

Time to get the aluminum skid splate for abit cheaper

Make sure they include that cooler bag in the link for spending over 150$. This should be good ammo to use against my dealer for a better deal.

The Unhaggle site is a useful reference point for Canadian vehicle buyers. You can get a free report which will provide the invoice (dealer cost) of the model selected, and a pretty good explanation of the various mandatory and optional items which will make up the MSRP, and the final OTD (out the door) cost, which is the all-in bottom line total cost. This info can be helpful for you to better understand the pricing structure for a vehicle purchase, and where you have leverage, and what is "fixed".

The only downside is you need to provide your email and contact info, and you will receive a contact call from a local dealer. In my experience it is a single contact attempt, and without ongoing nagging, so no big deal.

In addition, for $99 Unhaggle will handle an anonymous bid process for you to multiple dealers. You can select one of the bids, or not, no obligation, but the $99 is gone either way. I have purchased vehicles in the past with Unhaggle, and it worked well, with a good savings. For my current Telluride purchase, I got the free cost report, but found a local dealer myself who I liked, and was willing to reach what I considered to be a fair and very competitive price, and I didn't bother to use the Unhaggle bid process.

In the pricing discussion I had casually let the dealer know that I had used Unhaggle as part of getting background info; and I think sharing that awareness was a good thing to do. The dealer was familiar with Unhaggle, and didn't react negatively at all. My being clearly knowledgeable helped ensure that the pricing he presented to me right off the bat was very fair and competitive, and which I accepted. I look at the vague "admin/document" charge of typically $500 ballpark as just part of the TOTAL dealer profit margin, and include that figure accordingly when considering what a fair TOTAL dealer margin over invoice price should be.

With the current situation where most Telluride purchases are factory order, it may be generally easier to get the various high profit-margin add-on packages dropped from a deal (Winter or Prairie Package, coatings, accessories, window security etching, etc) as many of us are successfully doing, since those items have not yet been installed onto the vehicle at the dealer.

Hope this info is helpful to someone.

I am on a number of Facebook groups and forums, and I have seen ONE person with it (although many are looking for it), and it was a factory addon.

Supposedly it does not exist in the wide yet.

I received the first nightsky edition from Kia Scarboro this past Saturday. I also asked about what they have received. They have not received any SXL Nappa 2021 in the last 2 weeks since they have been showing up at the dealership. Like mentioned in other threads the nightsky looks to be fulfilled faster than other orders. Ordered on July 31 received on Sept. 5. The VIN look up numbers site in one of the threads doesnt work as it looks like US orders only. Ask the dealer for a VIN if they cant provide you with a VIN then the car most likely has not entered the production line yet. Did you put a deposit down?

I called dealerships and told them to email me their best out the door price and as of right now emailing back and forth with some. So far a alot of BS is being thrown at me. Doc fees is the biggest scam of all lol

$500 doc/admin fee will be hard to lose, that is a straight up profit for these guys, like Western mentioned, I would suggest letting that go, and working on the other bullshit fees if you really are interested.

I never argued with them on that fee, and still got a decent deal IMO. If you fight them on it, you won't be getting any deal IMO.

In the end it's a 1% surcharge I was willing to pay, so I did not have to pay the $2500 "Alberta fee"

In the end, I got everything in the Alberta fee included anyways for free (block heater, locking lug-nuts, Nitrogen).

BTW, I tried your tactic at the previous dealer I went to (twice, once in February and July), and was basically told screw you here is the price, like it or lump it... we are not waving that $500 fee.

Good Luck.

The dealerships I have talked to are waiving the doc fee which is a good thing. Trying to work on a discount as well. If they wont move too much on discounts I will work on the accessories. One dealership I talked to was trying to charge me $600 doc fee and then added 5k worth of "packages" to the vehicle. So far I have narrowed it down to 2 dealerships just waiting on their response. Car buying experience is a crazy one.

Oh, yes the tax alone is a big difference. Thanks for the explanation.

My new car just arrived over the weekend. I totally didn’t expect it so it was a good shock when they called me to come and pick it up.

I ordered in May (2020 SXL w/o nappa), received a 2021 SXL with nappa and had to pay the $1K premium for the nappa since the ones without nappa are not available any more.

Overall, I’m very happy with the purchase Experience at Kia West in Coquitlam BC.

Now I’m in the learning faze, still trying to figure out what all the different buttons do.

ffaceoff, do you mind sharing who your sales rep was? I was in there a week ago and didn’t get the best vibe from the rep that I was dea

My dealership here in Ottawa took off the doc fees and further reduced the price by $1400. I also got cost on aftermarket wheels. Being in a bigger city I could just go to another Kia dealership either here or in Gatineau. They want to sell cars which gets their numbers up allowing them to have more purchase power and therefore get more inventory on their lots. Did I read that you are in Kamloops? Maybe try Kelowna, Vernon, Penticton, etc... I've also seen smaller dealerships give better deals as well. Probably because they sell less than the larger markets and want to keep their numbers up. I don't know if you ever watch Zack Spencer on you tube? He promotes Car Cost Canada. I used that and took the numbers in to the dealership which is how I got my deal.

I would try my best to pit them against each other @nabatron . Telling them what one dealer is offering and asking them to best it to complete the sale, will definitely push them. I just had another dealer come in last minute and beat my best deal. Just waiting to hear back on accessories and what they can do with this upcoming fall promo in place.

Yeah I watch Zack Spencers videos. I checked out Car Cost Canada its another way to go as well. I think the deal I could be possibly getting is pretty similar... Dealerships are still working out the numbers for some reason dont get why its taking so long but it is what it is.

Hi DaBrass,

I was dealing with Marco. He was excellent.

Awesome, thanks!

As a side note to everyone, I had emailed Unhaggle earlier this week to see when the NightSky edition would be added to their site and the response I got back today was that it would be sometime next week. 🤞

I saw Downtown Kia also got a Black Copper NightSky in yesterday. Tempted to go check it out.

Thanks for the info. Scarboro was one of my shortlisted dealers before i booked. I did pay 2K booking back in Apr. Spoke to the dealership owner today and he said its the Nappa thts holding the order, atleast another months wait.... is what i heard.
