If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I live in NJ and most dealer here are charging at least 4K over MSRP for an SX. I am researching out of state dealers which are taking orders for the trim/color I am looking for. I have read some of the threads about this on ordering out of state. Other than the transportation risk which might be mitigated by transportation insurance, What are the risks of ordering out of state?

Sorry for my ignorance, but this is my first time buying a new car. For example if the car has a problem, should any KIA dealer address the issue under warranty and without hassles?

There are many members who have purchased out of State. It does not affect the warranty. There are many dealers who sell at MSRP. For example, Jones Kia of Bel Air MD sells at MSRP. That’s not too far for you so you can purchase and drive down to pick up. But I will let others who actually purchased out of State to weigh in. Good luck.

Nutley Kia charges MSRP. My order is in with them. 3 monthish wait.

I was prepared to take a road trip to Muncie Kia in IN because they participate in the Costco Auto Discount program. But there are too many complications right now with the plague, their long wait (8 months or so at last count) and the nightmares that are NJ DMVs right now. Shipping was a possibility, but that means adding $800-$1000 onto the price and waiting all night at a DMV to register the car, it to mention the long wait because they’re such a popular dealer. But I found a way to make all the great dealers here happy once I get the car...

Nutley Kia gets the order.

I buy an extended warranty from Jason and Lucas at Muncie Kia.

Stephen, another very helpful dealer here, gets some beer money.

Everybody wins!

Ok, I will give Nutley Kia a call tomorrow. Regarding the NJ DMV, I was under the impression the long waits for the DMV has die down a bit. I was there a couple of weeks ago for an inspection (the one in Lawrence Township) and I didn't see a long line. By the time I get mine, It should be better.

In the meantime, I am putting together a list of places I can inquire that are charging MSRP within 4-5 hours driving max. I found that people in the forum saying these places are charging MSRP (not sure if they still are but I am calling them tomorrow):

- Nutley Kia, NJ
- Jones Kia, Maryland
- West Broad Kia, Virginia
- Parsons Kia, Virginia

Please help me add any place nearby charging MSRP

My advice is don't be afraid of buying out of state as long as you're confident you're purchasing from an honest dealer (this forum is a great resource for that).

I live in Maryland but purchased from Muncie to get the COSTCO discount off of MSRP. We had to wait about 5 months (including the factory COVID shutdown) for an EX-P, but we weren't in any hurry. The purchase went flawlessly. We could have had the vehicle shipped to Maryland for $914, but decided to make the drive into a mini family adventure. I worked with Lucas at Muncie mainly by email, and he was incredibly responsive. When the vehicle arrived he sent us a short video tour of it, and we set a time for me to drive out the following weekend. There were no issues during the sale--we paid Maryland state tax, and purchased a 120,000 mile/8 yr warranty honored by any Kia dealership in the country for $1,578. They gave us a temporary Indiana tag good for 45 days, and overnighted the title paperwork directly to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. The MVA is quoting up to 60 days to process titles right now, so a few days before my first temp tag expired Muncie emailed me a new one to print at home.

The only negative I can think of is we put about 800 miles on our Telluride the first couple days we owned it. We tried to vary our speed on the way home since we were in the engine break-in period, which wasn't too hard since much of the drive was through the mountains of western Maryland. The drive also gave us a chance to get acquainted with our new family member (I swear, it almost seems like it's alive sometimes).

As I mentioned earlier, working with a straight-shooting dealer is very important. It would have been horrible if we'd driven all that way and then found out the dealer had a bunch of hidden fees (didn't happen to us). As long as you vet the dealer, though, you can save some money by buying out of state and reward dealers who are selling at or below MSRP.

I purchased my Telly from Nutley KIA at MSRP. Unfortunately my salesman, Ken, passed away recently. Here is a copy of a recent email Nutley posted in another thread.

Hey Guys,

We here at Nutley Kia are all devastated of Ken's passing this past week. He was an awesome guy, coworker, and friend to us all. I just came across this page. As most people have stated in earlier posts, we are the only Dealership in the Tri-State area that is charging MSRP, regardless if it's an Inbound or an Order. We do not believe only because the Telluride is in high demand, anyone has the right to mark it up whether it's $5,000 or at some places $25,000 over sticker. Insane...

Anyway, if you want an honest, fair deal on the Telluride, please feel free to contact Nutley Kia. (973) 667-0500 is our main number. Either Theresa, Carmen, or Rebecca will answer. They will put you in to speak to anyone of us Sales Consultants. We are here to assist all of you. Enjoy your weekend

Thanks for the info. I will definitely will be calling Nutley tomorrow morning. I called West Broad Kia (VA) and spoke to Ryan. Since I am looking for a White SXP, he told the wait might be up to 8 months. I am willing to wait but if I find something with a better ETA, I'll take it.

Ken was my salesman too. I placed my order with him five days before he passed. I'm still freaked out over it.

Night Ranger will be dedicated to him.

My Telluride ordering journey started today :)

I stopped by Nutley KIA this morning and put a deposit for a White/Dune SPX. They required a 10% deposit a bit different from the usual $1000. Perter told me the wait could be up to 6 months but maybe less. He told me there were 2 order ahead of me with the same exact combination but didn't tell me how many in total ahead of me. I will call him back to check on that.

Checking on failcat, I found Nutley has been getting more and more SX models since July (1), Aug (6), Sept (7), Oct (7 so far). Hopefully this is enough to at least get mine in 6 months. Anyways I will just keep saving more money to put a higher down payment.

Glad to hear you had a very productive day with Nutley KIA. Now the wait begins. (y)

Did Muncie provide financing rates in writing before you drove out there, assuming you financed?

Did Muncie provide financing rates in writing before you drove out there, assuming you financed?
TL;DR
They didn't give me the financing rate in writing.

Long Story
At Nutley
, They told me that the financing rate will be Kia promotional rate at the time of delivery. At the moment, the best rate for the Telluride is 1.9% APR for 60 months. Based on my research, they have to honor the Manufacturer promotional rate at the time of purchasing the vehicle. And because of all the economics stimulus implemented by the Feds to counter the effect of the pandemic, I am almost certain prevailing interest rates won't go up in a year.

Now, let's say the guy at Muncie Nutley is full of sh** and backs out when I am in the process of paying for my car and say I have to pay 5% APR. At that moment, I have a few tools to my disposal (and this is me, that have the money to pay full in cash but decide not to touch my investments):

1. I can go to my Credit Union as get a loan for a 2.29% APR for the full amount (MSRP, Taxes and Fees). Then go to Muncie Nutley, pay full cash, show them the middle finger and drive away.
2. Sell some of my investments. Then go to Muncie Nutley, pay full cash, show them the middle finger and drive away.
3. Accept their rate/incentives and refinance as soon as I get my loan information from the servicing company.

In all situations, they will not make any money from me from financing and I will come to the forums and bash them for dishonest business practices. In addition, will follow a complaint with Kia for Muncie Nutley not honoring Kia's promotional interest rate.

I know that we should never trust dealership because most of them are crooks in the business of at least taking as most money as possible from their customers or at most scamming people right out. However, I work in the finance industry and no business in their right mind will lock you in an interest rate for 6-8 or even 12 month without asking for some non-refundable cash. Try to lock an interest rate for a home loan for more than a month and they will start asking your for non-refundable money or at least non-refundable "appreciation fees".

Maybe I am wrong, but that is the way I see it. I am willing to live with the results.

EDIT: Sorry for mentioning Muncie instead of Nutley. I was confused by a question not asked directly to me. I know Muncie has a great reputation in this forum.

Why are you talking about Muncie? Your order is with Nutley, right? Promo rate is assigned at time of delivery/purchase as you said.

Like @locorecto , we were told we'd be eligible for the rates and incentives Kia was offering during the month of delivery. Our Telluride came in in August, so we were able to get the 0.9% for 48 months.

How long before you got your first ETA?

Ken showed me some other orders that were due to come in and they were all in the three month range from order to delivery. I placed my order Sep. 19. Chris, who took over my order from Ken, is expecting it to go into KFOS any day. So I’m looking at a mid-December delivery hopefully.

We only have one dealer in the npacific northwest charging MSRP and the wait was over 8 months. Starting calling around the country using failcat and found one in pittsburg exactly how my wife wanted it that was unclaimed and selling for MSRP. Due in a month or so. A bit anxious about the shipping and registration process because we have never done anything like this, and paying for shipping seems a bit crazy, but there are no great alternatives from what I can tell. I didnt want to drive from Pittsburg in the winter + covid + put all those miles on it. Hopefully the shipping process goes smoothly

Hey, did you get allocated in KFOS last week? Salesman told me I will most likely be allocated in November based on the number of allocations they got last week. So I assumed you might have been allocated since you ordered almost a month before me.
