• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Wireless Android Auto

🤖 AI Summary

No AI summary has been generated for this thread yet.
No 2021 Tellurides support wireless Android Auto or Apple CarPlay.

2021 Palisade with the 8” infotainment display do support them wirelessly... however, nicer ones with the 10.25” display continue to require a cable.

My limited research (take it at that) seems to think that the Telluride will not allow Wireless charging as current radio/infotainment systems on the market that do allow for it are built with the required hardware inside.

Having said that, there may be some plug in adapters into the USB port that 'may' offer a way or some other aftermarket solution.

Please correct me if someone can confirm otherwise, but what I have looked up on this seems to show support for wireless only on specific hardware models (not software specific).

Wireless charging is available on EX trims and higher. Wireless AA/Carplay is not.

Wireless phone charging and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay are in no way related.

Every Telluride has a wired-only connection for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

There are dongles that allow you to plug in and then connect to wirelessly to get you wireless Apple CarPlay. The CarPlay2Air adapter is one of these. I have been using one since January. It's not completely perfect, but I think that the small drawbacks (worst of which is the ~1-2 second delay in sound when you are changing tracks) are worth it given the massive increase in convenience. No more taking my phone out on my daily commute or running errands if I don't want to, but I still have the CarPlay interface and everything I want.

However, there are not any dongles that provide this functionality to add wireless Android Auto. I would love to be proven wrong someday, but as of now, I have not found anything. Every time I have seen anyone try to say they have found one, simply reading the product description will tell you it will not work. So, sorry, primarily Android users.

It appears to be in the works. "The device has already passed its funding goal and is available for $55 on its project page. Shipping is scheduled to begin by February 2021."

Awesome post, thanks for the update. I am hoping that their success will yield other types that can be even smaller/more compact. Still - this is great news and kudos to them.

Still not what is needed. Instead of your phone taking up the media port on your head unit, the box has to use it. What is needed is a box that will do the AA over bluetooth so it frees up the media USB slot for a thumb drive full of music. I loved that the Sorento had a hard drive to store your music on so you could play it and then use the USB for AA. Don't know why that hasn't come back into the Kia line up.

You can hope for wireless AA to be a factory feature in the future to allow a scenario like you want, but there will never be a way to add it to 2020/2021 models without faking a plugged in phone as this box/adapter will do.

As an aside, wireless AA (and CarPlay) utilize WiFi for acceptable bandwidth. They don’t use Bluetooth.

The K5 has wireless as will the new Sorento coming out. The only problem is if you upgrade to the Bose system in those, you lose wireless and are back to wired. You would think the premier system would't be less functional than the base system.. boggles my mind.

This is confusing then: User's Manual

It goes on to say that both Wifi and Bluetooth need to be enabled on the car and phone, and then walks through the pairing process.

They both need to be on because Bluetooth handles the initial connection with the car (each time it’s turned on). But it then quickly hands off to WiFi once that pairing is made. WiFi is needed because the video signal being output is way beyond what Bluetooth can manage.

So does Android Auto work wirelessly on the Telluride? I'm in the negotiation phase of buying one. However I won't have a chance to try it until early next week.

It does not work wirelessly from the factory, no.

The question about wireless android auto in Kia has been in my mind since I ordered new Sorento. I live in Europe and for now there is no mention about Wireless Android Auto. But on the U.S. site there is clear information about Wireless Android Auto in new Sorento.

Sorento Wireless AA CP.webp

So what? Is it possible that some Sorentos will have Wireless AA and in other regions it wont? Soon I will try to find out if I can enter Sorentos service menu and see if it has a Wi-Fi module inside. Then, possibily, a future software update might add wireless AA compatibility?

Like many other Kia/Hyundai models, the wireless CarPlay and Android Auto capability is currently only in the 8” head units. The nicer 10.25” models with navigation do not have this capability yet.

I’m not sure why there would be differences between markets, but it may depend on what infotainment system is in the model you have. If it is the bigger screen, that’s why.

I hope that 10.25” models already have a proper hardware inside and it's only a matter of time when they will be capable of Wirelesee AA connectivity.

I’m pretty doubtful of it. If they had the capability, why wouldn’t they enable it from the outset? Especially when lesser models are already offering this feature?
