If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I got a message first thing this morning that my Telly has finally made it from the train yard in KC to the dealer in the Omaha area. Sweet!

Got a call about an hour later that the gas cap cover is missing from the vehicle so I will not be picking it up today. Bummer. But not a big deal --- been waiting this long so what's a few more days/weeks. It will take unknown days to get a replacement from the factory, paint matched, installed.

My question is -- how would this have happened? And more importantly, assuming it was installed and a force ripped it off, what other bodywork damage do I need to be looking out for? This is a remote dealer I'm traveling to to pick it up (flying, full PPE), so I'm a bit nervous now about going through with the car.

Have your dealer to take some pictures of the missing gas cover area. Some closeup pictures especially. The cover has a automatic locking mechanism and that could be damaged too.

That is frustrating. Agree that pictures would be good to have. Are you sure it is not just the gas cap missing instead of the gas door?

If it's the actual door cover missing, that would raise a huge flag for me. Something that obvious missing would not(should not) pass manufacturer inspection. Which leads me to believe something happened after it left the plant. You should ask for a picture/video right away so you can assess the damage. If the damage is significant enough, consider rejecting delivery. I am sure dealer is scrambling to get it fixed right now.

request a photo right now. The car may be damaged, you need to get the photo as soon as possible. You probably read my topic, and so the expert whom I wanted to bring to court, says that according to statistics: 15% of cars are damaged at the factory, upon delivery or at a dealer. In any case, if your car has a complex color, then, unfortunately, the color will most likely differ, since plastic is very difficult to grow as in a factory. Here is an expert quote:

The color match on the bumper would most likely be off as it is hard to match factory bumper plastic to factory metal paint.

Just curious to where you are flying from,to pickup a car in the Omaha-Metro area? 🤔

I watched a 60 minute type special on TV on hail damage and other damage that happen to vehicles and that the can repair and repaint them and call them new and not disclose it as long as the repair is completed before they arrive at the dealership once a vehicle is damaged at the dealership or is delivered to it with body damage the must disclose it usually with a nice discount. If there is no damage and they can just bolt a new one on, I don't see why the factory who painted the car will have in trouble color matching the door.

not all manufacturers paint the door as parts. This can be sent to the dealer and the bodyshop will paint

That could make a difference and pain in the but since less and less dealers have body shops as one owner of a small auto group told me they are money pits and its the first thing he closes when he takes over as managing partner.
