• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Just brought home my T Ride. Had factory installed tow package. In glove box found a electric harness in plastic bag.
My trailer has surge brakes not electric brakes so I use a five pin adapter for trailer hookup which works fine on my Toyota 4 Runner.
Dealer doesn't have a clue what this harness is for. In testing my five pin adapter inserted into the tow harness I am not getting any voltage
for brake lights, turn signals, or hazard lights as well as no signal to disengage surge brakes for backing up trailer.
Has KIA screwed this up again? All comments welcomed.
By the way the T ride is awesome...... Pictures to follow.

Congrats! I just got my Telly about two months ago. I only waited 294 days from ordering, ha! Crazy. I appreciate your message above as I am in the process of buying a trailer and the dealer over the phone is trying to tell me I'll need all of these items changed out and added and it's like $2k. He's not familiar with the Telluride, so we'll see how things change once he see's the vehicle tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks. Please keep us posted as I am curious as well.

Done deal! I picked up my 2021 Winnebago Micro Minnie on Monday. The dry weight is: 3,705lbs. This is my first time ever towing with my vehicle. When the dealer saw that I had that factory hitch and the factory harness connector, he realized I didn't need anything but trailer brakes and a box up at the dashboard. It screwed right into the right side lower dash area. I did have to buy the hitch and ball, anti sway arms and I had a back up camera installed. It works great!

The rear camera view with the line showing where the hitch is, has been great to have. Plus the view downward is so clear, you can see it from there as well.

In the picture it looks like the car is riding low in the back. In that picture it was. But once we got started and drove, it rose up, a few inches. The dealer recommended I replace the airbags in the back if I want to tow long distances.

I picked it up in Palm Dessert and drove it back to Santa Cruz in 10hrs. I filled up 4 times! I had to pull uphill in a few spots. The lowest gas mileage was 10.7mpg. I burned through a tank in less than 2 hrs and my co-pilot was surprised we had to stop for gas again. I wasn't surprised and thankfully fuel is pretty cheap right now at $2.87/gallon.

I never felt underpowered, but of course more wouldn't hurt.

In my case, to "prep" the Telly, buy/install a backup camera, get everything in relationship to the hitch and ball, have trailer brakes installed and the controls mounted, totaled out to be $1,700.

Hope it helps anyone out there wanting to tow with their Telluride.

Telly and LuLu.webp

Great information to have. Thanks for posting this!

With the new 7 pin setup you should have not needed a electric brake controller. All i had to do was plug in my five pin adapter and
my serge brakes issue was solved. The new 7 pin allowed the T ride to send a signal to the brake controler not to engage the surge brakes
as I back up.

The brake controller allowed them to set the trailer brakes because at first they were gripping too much. So the technician and I drove around while he adjusted their sensitivity.

Did not realize that electric trailer brakes were that sensitive. I would think that once the brake signal was sent from the vehicle there would be
anyway to adjust for sensitivity brake pressure. Well glad to her they solved your problem.
Glad I have surge brakes on my boat trailer.

Did you ever get my pm?

Ok. At the top of your page there is a blue strip, showing a stock Telluride. Next to the front of that Telluride is an envelope (mail). It should show a red 1 indicating you have a message. Click on that and it will open to the message I left you.

No red 1 in mailbox do you remember the post # ?
