FCA Error - Radar Disabled

Since about 8350 miles (now at almost 10k) I have been having an intermittent issue with the error "Front Avoidance Assist (FCA) system disabled, radar blocked". There is no rhyme or reason when it will occur and it does it every time I drive regardless of weather and highway vs city driving. If I have cruise enabled and it happens it shuts down and disables cruise control too.

I find it clear itself and then will disable again, repeat. If I stop, turn off the car and restart it will also clear. I have taken it to the dealer and they are having issues reproducing it. I have the following photo showing the error when it first happened. I have inspected the sensors to make sure nothing is actually blocking. Have seen same error appearing on the Stinger (other forums) so seems it may be just a wiring issue and hopefully not a wide spread problem.

Will update when I get some suggested resolution from dealer. BTW I have EX AWD and extended warranty. I have been driving almost exclusively in ECO mode.

Check your radar plate on the front of the vehicle and clean it, make sure there's no bugs or bug juice on it.
 
I’m having th same issue and Kia can’t reproduce it. I also have pictures to show. I have taken it in 2x and it doesn’t happen for them....

Mine has 2000 miles on it and I have seen this error several times. Usually it only last a minute or less. Hopefully it doesn’t get worse, or if it does it gets bad enough that the dealer will be able to reproduce it.
 
MY kia Telluride just turned to 10K and error seems to pop up about 15 - 20 minutes of driving (3 for 3 times) and it also has gone off a few more times. Funny thing I just was at the dealership having a busted seat seam fixed today. and now this sensor is acting up within 1 hr after leaving dealership
 
I am having the same issue. Just started today on my way home from work. 12k miles. This is my first Kia and this is the 2nd issue to come up. My last 2 cars were Hyundai and had zero issues with either one and still own them both. 🤔

Just got ours and this is happening to us as well. Haven’t used cruise control yet so not sure if that is a linked problem but the same error message came up numerous times today for no reason. We also have an EX AWD only a few hundred miles on it.
 
This issue happened to my Telluride as well. It gives me a warning ⚠️ that the FCA is not working and radar is blocked. The adaptive cruise control will not work as well. The system is not recognizing the car in front. I just dropped the car off at the dealership. They said they’ve not seen this issue yet but I told them I found a forum that this has happened to many people.

This just happened to me on the way to work. I live in Buffalo NY, it just started snowing pretty heavily today. I went to the front of the vehicle and cleared all the snow and slush. Hopefully that fixes it. Has anyone had this issue resolved? Is anyone experiencing this in inclimate weather too?

It appears to be somewhat of a design flaw IMO but I had issues regardless of weather and it turned out there was a defect on the interior of the plastic plate by the sensor - sensor and plate were replaced under warranty. If you get bumped on this plate or bump into a curb etc... this could also create this error. No sure why it is so sensitive. Im heading into my second winter with mine here in Michigan
 
I have noticed that it seems pretty sensitive to snow. Even if the snow isn't collecting on the front of the sensor, but is just wet and heavy, that is certainly enough to get it to disable. I wish it weren't so sensitive, but I'm fine with it shutting down when it can't work with very high confidence. Compared to my Subaru I would say the Telluride system shuts down less frequently, but when it does it seems to stay disabled for longer. The Subaru (stereo camera system, no radar) requires better visibility (snow or even heavy rain on the windshield can block the camera view) but also re-engages quickly when visibility is restored. Both work well for the most part, but I prefer the Subaru system (I'm a bit biased as I'm a computer vision engineer, so cameras win :) )

The scarier thing that has happened with the Kia system - and it has happened 2 or 3 times now - is that it doesn't disable when it should. I have noticed that it doesn't detect the car in front of me while using ACC, and in two cases I came close to rear-ending a car. In all cases it was during wet snow (about as close to rain as you can get and still be snow. Sleet?) I would call it moderate precipitation. I can believe / understand why it wasn't able to detect the car, so that's not the complaint...it's that it didn't disable itself or otherwise alert me that conditions were marginal. At other times it has disabled itself in conditions that didn't seem very bad (and when I would expect it to work) - again, that part is OK with me, I just can't totally make sense of it.

I'm now reluctant to use it when it is raining much more than a drizzle. Thankfully it doesn't rain a lot in Denver.
 
Very informative thread. This is my first car with this kind of technology so I wonder if other cars have similar issues with these systems (Radar Sensors, etc.) in heavy rain or snow. Is it reasonable to expect these sensors to work in inclement weather?

As a general time of thumb, don’t use smart cruise control or rely on the FCA systems where there is any precipitation.

Sorry if this is a silly question, new owner here so bare with me lol. Where is the sensor and plate? Isn't it on the top of the windshield?
