• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Looking for some feedback from you all that are more familiar than I am at dealing with items like a paint imperfections noticed at the time of pickup. When I picked up my Telluride this week I noticed a small nick in the paint just below the driver side mirror. The dealer has given me two options.
  1. Give me with a Wolf Gray paint pen to touch it up.
  2. Repaint the entire door.
They are "recommending" that I go with the paint pen although I can understand why they'd try to encourage me to take that approach since it is less cost to them. It's a small nick and I assume that a paint pen would do enough to protect it, but I'd like to get opinions from those of you who have more experience with this than I. I appreciate any feedback or recommendations.

If you go with the repaint this is the best time to do it while the car is new.

With the pen you may have to polish around it to make it look good.

I'm sure other knowledgeable member will come in shortly.

If I were you I would take the paint pen and have them knock a few bucks off the price and move on. I would not have confidence in that paint color matching whatsoever.
Mismatched door paint vs paint chip 99.9% of people with never notice, makes it a simple decision for me. GL

Listen to the advice of family man.

Barely noticeable nick vs a mismatched door. It is a no brained decision to me at least. Added benefit is you will have a paint pen for the next nick - they are unavoidable.

Thanks all, I appreciate your feedback. I was leaning in the direction of the paint pen and am glad to hear some further thoughts on these options. I don't want to risk a color mismatch on a full door repaint so I'll go with the paint pen. I honestly don't expect to get anything more back from the dealer on this, but they have been good throughout the purchase process so I'm okay with that.

touch up the touch, use a needle or toothpick. then polish. You can still paint with a stain, only this place, but it is expensive and few people do in North America. Complete repainting - definitely not, since your color is white and it is almost impossible to achieve a match of colors. Naturally, this should be paid in full by the dealer + a small compensation in the form of gifts.

What kind of gifts? I am truly intrigued

This is what I called compensation, translation difficulties. For example: car mats or a carpet in the trunk, some of the accessories for example.

Been there done that. I had dealer take off $1000 for a chip on the hood of new Eddie Bauer trim on the 1991 Explorer. He wanted the sale and wanted to trade me for another color. Other person was going to pay MSRP and I had already negotiated a discount. Took the $1000 and got a couple of extras, then a bigger down payment. So get a paint pen, do it yourself, you will not regret it. You will never get a 100% match to the original. It is in an obscure place it will not be noticed. See if the dealer will take off a couple of hundred dollars then call it good. Maybe you ask their body shop to actually put the touch up paint on too and give you a matching pen. I also did that on my Explorer back then and they agreed. Even though that car will sell to someone else if you walk away, they want it gone and you are there. My 2 cents.
