• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi all
Tried to search the forum but couldnt find anything on this.
When I connect my iphone via bluetooth and use google maps for directions, I dont hear the first 2 words of the direction prompts. I think it must be due to a lag in connecting to the cars bluetooth but this happens at every step/direction/turn!
Is there any fix for this?
Thanks in advance.

Not sure I fully understand your situation. So you’re just using Google maps for voice prompts for directions? Because I don’t think you can connect to AA/CP via Bluetooth, only via physical cable.

In settings on google maps you can select the directions to come out of the phone only, while the song or whatever media you have playing will continue to play over the speakers via bluetooth. Not a fix, but a workaround that might help you. I've done this for my in-laws who listen to the radio, use the phone to navigate, but have it connected for phone calls.

Thx that will have to do for now!

I connect the phone to Bluetooth. Google direction prompts are heard over the car speakers fine...its just that we don't hear the first two-three words. so instead of "in 200 ft turn left" all we hear is "turn left"!

there is likely a delay for bluetooth to communicate with the head unit. by the time it connects to interrupt the other audio source you are listening to, it is already halfway through the prompt.

can set the navigation voice to come out the phone speaker as suggested above. Or try using bluetooth music from the same phone so it stays connected and won’t have a delay.

Just in case this isn't an April Fool's Day forum post:

Been trying a bunch of phones through the infotainment system of the Telly and other cars.

Just some initial thoughts on nav integration:

Kia's Nav is the best for the Kia Telly (no surprise).
(Everything native, works like a charm, plus the maps are better than Apple's or Alphabet/Google's and integrate with the HUD)

then

Google Maps > most Android phones (tested three Samsung's so far) > Telly

then

Apple Maps > Apple phone CP > Telly

then

Google Maps > Apple Car Play > Telly
(i've seen this issue on other cars too)

The same thing happens to me. Did you find out why?

Our previous 2020 telluride did this with every phone we used with it and our new 2023 does the same thing, cuts off the first 2 seconds or so of any audio coming from the phone when it starts playing, not just for navigation although it's most noticeable on navigation. It's like the infotainment system mutes audio when there is no sound transmission over bluetooth and then doesn't unmute quickly enough when it receives some bluetooth audio again. Never seen an issue like this with any other vehicle we've owned.
The problem is the same with android and apple phones and we had several different phones over the time we had our 2020.

This problem doesn't happen when using android auto btw.

I really wish kia would fix this, it is undoubtably a problem with kias infotainment system, not the phones and easy to replicate.

If anyone does not see this behaviour under the conditions above could you please post?

Have you confirmed if this is not an issue in other car make/models? Could be a limitation of bluetooth delay and switching audio sources. Similar to how a phone would ring before before you hear it over the car speakers when connected with bluetooth.

I've used Google navigation in several vehicles and been in many other people's vehicles with it being used, the telluride is the only vehicle I've ever seen this problem in. It's a problem with Kia's Bluetooth implementation or something else in their infotainment system.

Does it do it in yours?

This is 2025 and I have the same instruction delay using 2 different iPhone 14pros both running IOS 18 on two different cars - 2019 Acura RDX and 2018 Honda CR-V

All vehicles have this potential delay of establishing a Bluetooth connection each time the navigation provides directions. The real solution is providing a delay in the navigation settings for google maps or iPhone maps based on a Bluetooth connection. This setting could be could also be offered by Apple in the BT connected device settings, by buffering the announcement until the BT handshake is established. Can’t believe all the software engineers at both companies haven’t seen this issue in their personal environment. Problem is only solved by using the phone with some type of media with a continuous BT connection. But that’s not a solution for me.
