If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 10,000 miles and crapped out

I'm still looking for the post here that talked about the plastic fitting and oil contamination. Sorry can't find it just yet. Looking for it for a memory refresh.. its been a while.. I read it either on this site or one of the others. There are many.. if I can find it again I will copy and paste it here.

I have watched a few videos on changing oil in this engine. The only plastic parts mentioned are the oil filter housing which is plastic and it screws into a plastic receiver so caution is used not to over tighten. The other thing I noticed is the large o ring that gets replaced around the filter housing about in the middle. A mistake that I could see happening is putting that o ring in the wrong slot which would cover the oil ports blocking the oil flow. Could that cause a misfire condition ? another question I have is should these high tech engines use Synthetic oil ? the videos I watched all use Synthetic 5w30. I cannot find recommendation in the owners manual on using synthetic or non synthetic. my oil change receipt just says 5w30.

.SX AWD, I had the dealer put full synthetic in mine the last change. The reason, for me, is synthetic oil (depending on make but generally) is cleaner with a lower volatility. Less oil is vaporized and refed into the intake manifold via the pcv (positive crankcase ventilation) valve required for emissions control. Oil gunks up the valves over time as the engine is a gdi engine. That said, your engine is too new to have a large buildup of carbon on the valves even with non synthetic oil that comes with the car. Kia's engineers think its okay. Google lawsuits of Kia gdi engines for a more detailed explanation.
I think a blocked port in the filter could cause a low oil pressure light, so thats probably not it. A bit of o ring blocking flow of the OCV on the top of the engine controling the valves might if it was pumped that far into the system. Manufacturing debris (bits of metal etc) definitely. I think, but am not positive, that the oil is further pressurized before it get to the OCV.
I'm not a car mechanic, so take all this appropriately, but I did graduate with an engineering degree, many years ago.
We are all just speculating until they actually find the cause.

SX AWD, Any update on your vehicle? What are they telling you the next steps are to fix your engine?
Update on my vehicle: They replaced the single fuel injector on mine that was associated with the misfire. So far, it is working well. I got the car back and it has had no issues so far. The engine is running smoothly although I have only put maybe 50 miles on it. The dealer has been instructed to send the faulty injector to Kia for examination. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Also, while my engine air intake manifold was off the engine, I asked them if it was possible for them to check my Oil control valve for debris. They did not do this. The explanation was that it would require more seals that they didn't have and it was not directed to be done by Kia techline support.
Please update us on your vehicle when you get the news. I am very curious.
OGJZ,, I know they did similar fuel injector replacements on your vehicle and that you had a big trip planned with your vehicle. Can you tell us how your car is running? We haven't heard from you, so it is probably good news?

Nothing new as of yet...we picked up the car last Tuesday and had the misfire happen 3 times on Wed. When I talked to Kia and the Dealer they said bring the car back in on Monday (yesterday). Well it has not happened since last Wed, so I called and asked if we should bring it in or wait until it happens again. they said bring it in anyway. And of course it is not doing it for them and there are no stored codes. Still waiting to hear back as to what is next ???

UPDATE....Well its been 1 week since last episodes and NO issues at all, Unexplainable, but happy again !

UPDATE....All Fuel injectors were replaced on Dec12th, We picked car up on Dec 15th, Had 3 misfire events on Dec 16th which was unexplainable to them. However as of 3 weeks later there has not been any more events. Fingers are crossed !

Mine is running well so far.

Interesting read to follow but I think it goes without saying that you two should familiarize yourself with your home states vehicle lemon law. I have no experience with making a claim of this sort, but in TX we're pretty well covered by this for the first 2 year of ownership.

Too good to be true.....after 33 days of no misfire events it happened again, light on and misfiring. Turn car off, restart and its fine. No codes stored. From the very first time this has happened and up to now the UVO app has always said no issues found. VERY frustrating !

Sorry to hear this.. I suggest the next time it happens, if able , stop and video the dash and lights etc. Including any noises it is making. Let it run for a few moments in the misfire condition so the codes will be stored..Some codes are indeed stored but not displayed until the event happens a number of times. 3 times etc within a certain number of cycles. Ie start stop cycles.
A video for the dealer would be helpful. Keep us informed.
I'm really sad this is happening to you.

Thanks for the good advice on getting a video of it running rough. I do however have a picture of the dash showing the check engine light on and the mileage every time this has happened.

Hi all, sorry I didn’t come back and reply, and btw in the midst of all your replies someone confused me w/someone else - no fuel injector and no big trip here. We were just told “it” was fixed (I still don’t know what “it” was) after many days gone and 150 extra miles on it. Things were fine until about 2wks ago, I felt it start running louder and idling hard. I was driving to work one morning and after about 35 miles I felt what I first thought was a loss of power except that I didn’t lose power steering or braking, the best way I can describe it is if you have your cruise control set at a certain speed and you accelerate over that and that feeling you get when the car reigns you back in? That was it, I was pressing on the gas and it was “revving”, but my speed was dropping fast. No service light came on, no code on the HUD like last time, I even did the diagnostic on the UVO app, nothing. I made it to work, called hubby, called the dealership. Thought I’d attempt to drive it to my dealer, and of course it behaved after being off for 2 hours. They have had it so far for a week, they called and said they had pulled the dipstick out and it was completely dry 😳 - no oil. They have been in charge of the oil changes this whole time, certainly if they had forgotten to refill after a change it would not have made it 3 more months. The second call they said this might be the first engine that Kia corporate will have to replace on their own dime. That’s all we’ve heard since Thursday.

I would be curious after the poster from Texas mentioned the lemon law down there what we have here.....I just love the car though and want it fixed.

Wait, your service tech drained your oil and forgot to fill it? Somebody is getting fired....

I don’t think the engine would have survived 3 months without oil although no oil on the stick certainly means the oil level was extremely low

No, we said it was obvious that was not the case, no one forgot. There is no compression on the 4th or 6th cylinder, it’s burning oil, spark plugs are shot. They have to jump through corporate’s tests before they agree to a new engine. The dealership has been great, the head service guy has been fantastic. Will keep you all posted.

Ahhh, that makes sense now

SX AWD - Intermittent failures like that might mean a bad fuel, have u used gas from same place or same company? Try changing them

Agreed. Bad gas could cause contamination, condensation accumulated in the gas tank as water, bad fuel filter contamination, all could lead to misfires. I would try tracking the source of the fuel. Stick with one station for a while and if you get the misfire try a different one. Could be the local gas station you use has a bad tank or they are the last on the tanker route and it stirs up sediment at the bottom of the tank because it gets too low.
