If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 14.10 update (November 2020) now available

I’ve never seen it; I have an S model. Just seems fishy and they were just looking for a reason to walk. That’s cool; the Telluride isn’t for everyone

This story isn't very surprising to me. For me the infotainment system is a big part of a car buying decision. If I had seen this strange purple design when I was comparing the Telly against other similar SUVs, it definitely would have weighed into my decision and it's possible I'd be driving a different brand today. In my state the law is very accommodating toward consumers, with regard to car deposits and buying commitments.

It is indeed funny just to think of it as just a "software release". But also a little scary, right? Instead of just adding some enhancements and tweaks that users have been asking for, Kia just decided to drop a bomb and make the interface almost unrecognizable compared to what we saw in the showroom. Regardless of whether you love or hate the purple design or other head-scratching changes like the radio screen or certain disappearance of useful features, the fact that Kia didn't anticipate that a lot of people would hate these changes is pretty scary to me. I have zero confidence that we'll continue to receive meaningful and mature updates. Now I have to come here and ask for screenshots each time so I can pre-screen the software before I install it, and I have to make sure to ask the dealer not to install it for any reason each time I bring it in for service. All so that I don't end up with a 2021 top-of-the-line SUV that has a 1999-looking infotainment UI. (end of rant!)

Hello,
Has anyone found the solution to enter Engineer mode since the upgrade on the Kia Telluride? I have tried multiple ways without any success.

Thanks,
Fred

Hello,
Yes I have tried that also multiple time without any success. I found some youtube videos and tried them. I also found few procedures that I tried but all of them date of before the upgrade was available. Unfortunately I have not tried it before upgrading. Also the captures on what I found clearly come from the previous version.

I googled a lot before posting the question. Not sure if anyone tried it with the new release? I am not even getting the prompt for the password. Just nothing happens.

Thanks!
Fred

I picked up mine on 3/1, it has the 3 screen split 👐

Not surprising at all. For example, Tellurides continued to be delivered with 13.5 all the way into the fall of 2020, even though 14.0 came out in late April 2020 (and 14.5 came out late August 2020). New vehicles coming out of the factory are likely going to lag significantly behind.

It's Ok to go to 14.5 as you still have the 3 panel split screen and you gain the open 3rd spot for Android Auto to add something of your choice instead of it just displaying "Android Auto". If you go to 14.10 that's when Barney (Purple Home screen that does nothing, will appear).

So… you waited 3.5 months after this update was released, absorbed all of the information available, yet still decided to do the update, and now you want to complain about it? I can understand if you simply don’t like the new design and you chose not to perform the update on your vehicle. But if you decided to do it at this point, you are in no position to complain. You made the choice.

No one who has installed 14.10 on their Telluride and doesn’t like it can blame anyone other than themselves. Those who rushed to install it right away did it sight unseen and without any available release notes. Those doing the update days, weeks, or months later had forum posts, Facebook posts, and change logs to read.

Not to sound overly harsh, but if you did it and you don’t like it, it’s on you. Period.

To answer your question, next update should be out in the second half of April. What it will bring, we will all find out then.

Not sure if anyone else is having this issue but my infotainment system just hangs up on its own (mostly when I am using the navi) and then a dreadful blue screen appears and it restarts. Any suggestions?

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match with someone in a car forum and my comment was not generally out of line with the rest of the sentiment of the forum.

Unfortunately for me I had been researching in another forum (different site) most related to the android auto split screen fix which was my main concern. The forum was only a couple of months old and they were still using the version before the purple monstrosity and did not outline a new update that had come out since.

Yeah it's on me but really can't wrap my head around a layout change that changes some of the most desirable functionality of the unit for me. So, i'm voicing it.

There is a reset button that you could try or take it to the dealer hopefully while it’s blue screened

This venue is probably the best place to voice your opinions if you want KIA to take action.

Yea, the split screen fix was nice - in theory; but in reality I'm finding it too is kind of useless. Most of the split screen options are redundant or otherwise not relevant; except for maybe the weather function. Which takes some extra effort to get enabled (not bad), but once you do - all it says is the outside temperature; it doesn't actually display weather info any more - making it kind of useless too. Of everything related to the update, that really is my biggest dissapointment.

As to blues reply... eh, probably not the life-of-the-party guy. Ah well.

I agree with this. The split screen is not very useful, but I guess looks a little better than an "Android Auto" logo. What would probably be more useful is the new Android Auto widescreen support and the new AA split screen feature, which (presumably) is more configurable. Waze on one side, Youtube Music on the other?

I don’t quite understand what you mean about the weather…

The weather functionality is unchanged in 14.10 (compared to 14.5 and 14.0 before it), and is significantly more functional than the even earlier versions of the software that relied on HD radio data. Really the only change that was noticed in 14.10 is the glyphs are now neon-style to match the rest of the interface.

In split screen, it will show your current temperature (as observed by your car) along with current conditions:
1615479360001.webp

Or it can show you the forecast for the current day and next two days:
1615479398197.webp

Additionally, if you go to the weather app itself, you can get more detailed information about the current day.
1615479453592.webp

There’s also the three day forecast, but that is not really any different than the three day I showed above.

The only way I might consider the weather widget “useless” is if your UVO subscription has lapsed; in theory, the move to using connected services for weather rather than HD radio data means it requires an active subscription. However, I have seen conflicting info from people on the forum regarding whether their weather info went away or not with a lapsed UVO subscription.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Unfortunately KIA disabled the free HD radio weather polling, and now is requiring an active subscription to their UVO service for it to work. I guess it's just me, but after paying $50k for the car, it's a little nickle and diming, to expect people to also pay for their UVO service as well. And breaking other free options to force people that way, is kind of poor. That, and I don't really value the UVO features that much, since all of it is done better, more up-to-date, and better interface via Android anyway.

UVO recently expired for me so I can close some gaps.

2 weeks ago - weather widget and HD radio Doppler weather working.

Today - neither one work w/ expired UVO. I am a bit bothered on the HD radio weather piece not working as I know the data is still present in my area and there is a button for it. I would need to do some more research, but disabling the HD radio weather functionality to drive me to a subscription could potentially be grounds for some type of unfair sales practice.
