Thanks everyone for (1) informing me of this update and (2) all the comments and feedback on the changes.

I successfully updated this afternoon and all-in-all I'm okay with the new look. I only have 1,000 miles on my Telly so I can quickly adjust to the changes. As discussed in prior comments, there are some good ideas for this forum to recommend to KIA on future updates.

Anyone figure out how to link your UVO account to your profile? When clicking on that in the profile update section it says to either use the Kia Access app or owners website, but not seeing anything on either of these to define which profile to link to after this update.

A few additional observations on the update:

I noticed the song/show title doesn’t display on the new Home Screen when listening to SiriusXM. Seems like a big miss to have all that unused space and not show it. My wife’s Subaru shows album art from Sirius too. That would be better than the vacuum tubes on the radio screen.

While the integrated map is cool on the Home Screen, it’s puzzling why they would align it to the right side of the screen and make the driver look that much further away from the road to see the map. Seems like a poor UX decision and one that was made in a conference room instead of in a usability lab.

Another annoyance in the new radio ( besides all the wasted space for the new channel number display) is the preset menus. You have to reach all the way over to the right to change the bank of presets to the next set. I believe the old way was a vertical swipe to scroll, which is much easier. Sure, you can use the steering wheel controls, but why make the touchscreen design more cumbersome to interact with more clicks and smaller text? Just seems like poor design and more opportunity for distraction.

Overall, I don’t hate it, but I’m pretty puzzled as to why a $52k car would have such a big screen and then make such a major update to downgrade functionality and leave so much screen wasted. This feels like design made for the conmonality of all models in the lineup when Telluride should be getting its own customizations and not have to have the same limitations as a basic Soul, for example.

This should not be a budget design decision as it will erode the brand equity the Telluride had already built up, not to mention tick off owners. Let’s hope stuff like this sinks into someone’s head at Kia for future updates.

I haven’t figured out how to do it, but I just assumed the feature wasn’t totally ready yet and might involve an update to the UVO app or website or something. Presumably it will be coming soon.

It would be really nice if you could add your own pictures for the profiles so you aren’t stuck with the stock pictures that they have.

A question about those radio presets....Do they run horizontally across the bottom of the screen, like in the pic posted of the SXM stations? So even if you don't have a second bank to lean far to the right to access, you would have to lean across anyway to select, say, your 6th station? I'm never sure if my Telly is like everyone else's (I'm Canadian), but my current presets scroll vertically to the left of the screen, nice and close by. That seems ideal to me.

Yep, they sure do, but they are scrunched in really small boxes with a small font. If you do the pop out from the right of the screen they get slightly smaller too. Really puzzling design decision. I’m just struggling to understand why some of this seems to ignore the position of the driver when it comes to usability since that person would use it most of all.

That's exactly my thinking. Keep it simple, safe and usable for the driver. The nav looks decent, but I don't really use it. I think I'll hold off on this update.

Also, I want more widget options. Or the option to have a split two-widget screen as the home screen rather than three widgets. Those might tempt me on a future update.

This UI is standard on Seltos and new Sorento, I think. Kia is standardizing the look I assume. Since you don't have to reach that far on Seltos(or any other Kia lineup), they probably overlooked the usability on Tellys. I am pretty sure the software engineers do not have access to Tellys in Korea.

I’m updating mine as I write this and started thinking, would have been nice if Kia included a WiFi device internally so it could update overnight instead of downloading on a computer and going to the car with a flash drive. They have that on some GM vehicles and Tesla as well.

I agree and I’m surprised that’s how the updates are performed. My wife’s 2018 Odyssey downloads via WiFi after shutting the engine off.

Does anyone know if the new units shipping now will have this latest software update from the factory?

I’d just be happy you can do it relatively easily and at no cost. Most or all other manufacturers are going to charge you for map updates, often $100 or more each time.

Kia’s map updates even come with other handy functionality upgrades as well.

This is what the radio looks like now? Looks like a shitty winamp skin from the 90s. Do you have to use this UI or can you stick with the current style?

It really whips the llama's ass! lol I was definitely a fan of Winamp back in the day!

Mine took forever to update. I chose to run it in the background while I drove around and my usb stick was only 2.0 so about 2.5 hours but then the install was easy. After I had a chance to play with it I like it. The profiles are nice. The radio screen is awful even worse in person but all the functionality is there. I like the purple and set my ambient lights custom colour to match and it looks better than I thought. I thought it would make the vehicle look like it was owned by Prince but it's actually kind of cool looking. Weird that the renamed driver talk as the name was pretty good oh well passenger talk it is. Had to set back all presets and adjust the radio again. Love the new home screen. It's actually pretty cool. The weather is there the time, radio station and the map (which was useless in the 1/3 square anyway) only wish they would add simple compass somewhere in the car. Like the old GM ones in the rearview mirror or on the radio somewhere. All in all a nice update.

Another mender on the forum used the 2 amp version without issues too I think.

A jump starter battery might not be able to provide continuous power for 30 minutes straight while you are running accessory mode. Could always just keep the engine running of you don’t want/need a charger.

Sounds like “background update” was just another name for “full update” which several people fell victim to in the previous updates.
