In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. 15,000 mile oil change

I thought stock was 291 HP.

K&N could add 4-5 HP for $400
Borla Exhaust could add 8-12 HP $600 (although some folks on this forum are trying to negotiate a group rate)
Stage 1 performance chip could add up to 20 HP increase (doubtful it's that high) for $100 on sale

The Borla designed for the 2020 Kia Telluride is an axle-back exhaust system that’s able to produce a unique sound.

Borla makes no claims of any performance gains in terms of HP.

It does weigh about a pound less than the OEM part, if that makes any difference, but the main purpose for the Borla is the signature sound when revving in Sport Mode with no drone when Telly is in idle or being driven “normally” in one of the boring drive modes.

Thanks for clarifying. I was referencing the Borla FAQ which doesn't distinguish between cat back vs axle back and says they see between 8-12HP gain. But it makes sense that the Telluride's mod is axle back and is just for looks and sound.

I have not tried it. I'm happy with my fuel efficiency and for what I tow and haul I have enough HP and torque. But if someone else tried it and noticed a bump without a major drop in fuel efficiency, I might be convinced to drop $100 since it's just an OBD connection. The claims might be a little overblown at 4mpg increase in fuel efficiency while also giving 20HP more, 50% more throttle response, and 19 ft-lb more torque. It's possible that this just doing the same thing that the driving modes do, just cranking it up a notch. This may be that tow mode that the Telluride is lacking. There is a 30-day money back guarantee but they do say that it may take up to 2 weeks of use to fully show the impact.
Chips are junk and waste of money.

You’re right!

I like the Telluride enough to go with it, I do wish Toyota would update the Sequoia tho.

My wife thinks it’s perfect, she’ll never even give the intake valves on the 3.8 GDI a second thought.

Me on the other hand, I’ll likely install a catch can on the pcv line, Maybe run some seafoam through it every six months or so. I’m sure it will be amazing.

@DarkMossJustin Besides, have you seen the headliner on the prestige? No Toyota has that!

Seafoam = Elixir of the Engine Gods

Which unfortunately is the way I drive most of the time. However, Ot least one guy (I think I posted the video earlier) said he realized a 1-2 MPG increase in milage when driven "normally". If so, this thing will eventually pay for itself (eventually)

With your amazing catalog of music, plus the magical light in NM, I would imagine that you can craft the perfect Sport Mode playlist for some uptempo driving in Sport Mode.

We all have the same Telluride pedals and drive modes.

Ready to Sport Mode Saturday with us? Maybe play some hard rock through the Harman/Kardon sound system?

You have the stock SX 10-speaker setup still, right?

What volume ranges do you play your music, windows up or windows down? 🤘😂

It's funny, so 291 HP is a weak motor ... Prior to my Telluride, my highest power vehicle I ever owned in 49 years was my Dodge Dakota V8, with a wopping 220 HP.

My sister had a 1979 Trans Am , with a Oldsmobile 6.6L ( 403 ), that put out 186 HP.

Yeah, tell me again, that our Tellurides are low on power. LOL

Plenty of power and I drive Telly pretty hard.

Coming from a 2002 V8 Lexus and a 1990 V6 4WD 4Runner, I’m not wanting of any more power out of my Telly.

I’ve carved canyons with friends’ ‘Ratis and ‘Raris and yes those are fun sports cars that I can take corners much faster than with Telly but i have to say that I love driving my Kia.

In fact, I want more.

Hopefully getting a 2021 Stinger GT2 and the Forte GT-Manual and yes, I want.... another Dark Moss Dune Brown Telly, or should i go total 🐼 w/ Dune on y’all?

Bring back Snow White Pearl Kia !!

Ready to Sport Mode Saturday with us?
Would you believe that I have not driven in any modes so far other than Eco (most of the time) and Snow mode. I've not even tried Sport Mode nor Comfort mode for that matter (I find Eco mode quite comfortable and I'm getting phenominal gas milage). I may try it one of these days just for grins.

Nope, just trying to help people not throw their money away. There is no way a product that cost 100 dollars will gain you 20 more hp. Have you ever had a car or a Dyno tuned?

But you could argue the drive modes are the same. If shifting a knob to ECO or Smart changes your ECU to drive a different way that's basically what a chip does, it adds a new drive mode. I don't care about HP, but I do care about MPG. If in fact it gains 4 MPG after about a dozen fill ups or about 4-6,000 miles you might have made your money back.

You are comparing apples to oranges. The different drive modes were tuned for the vehice. A chip just tricks the computer by making it think the parameters are different. By all means get your car on the Dyno and then again after buying the chip. And then when you spend all that money for Dyno Time and chip, think how much money you would have saved

Funny how an oil change thread goes this way. "There is no replacement for displacement#* (except boost)! Having rebuilt an engine and modified a few, there really is no magic pill for normally aspirated engines. Turbo's, thats a whole new ballgame. Maybe Kia can turbocharge the next Telluride to enable 350-400 hp and you can then coax 450-500 with boost increases. Hey, we can dream.

Back to the oil change. The dealership is going to start carrying Total Quartz motor oil. Just need to find out how much they charge for the oil. I like to do oil changes myself.

This👆

I do them myself as well. I’ve been duped multiple times with misrepresented oils going in, over torqued bolts and filters, mis-threaded drain bolts… I’ve come to the conclusion that no one cares about your stuff as much as you do. Just because it’s being done at the dealership doesn’t mean anything…
Get yourself set up with some ramps, a decent oil catch pan, a $40 socket set, and some Mobile 1, Redline, or Castroil Titanium. And if you watch AutoZone and O’Reilly’s you will find these top grade oils and filters on sale on a regular basis.
Hell, I may even invest in a Fumoto valve to save a few minutes and oil invariably spilling on my hand as I pull the bolt out of the way.

Sorry, I'm a 74 year old female, not going to be under my Telly changing oil. Do you have another suggestion for not getting my Telly BOOED!!!

Second best choice is to find someone you trust, someone who takes pride in the work. Likely not the dealership, and likely not Walmart either.

Sounds like good advice. My husband has a mechanic who takes care of his 2013 F150. We trust him, was worried about voiding my warranty. Have not received my Telluride yet, but happy to have all this great advice. Thanks!!!!

I was researching about maintenance and warranty and learned that the FTC has a policy on this. It is illegal for the dealer to deny cover because you had required maintenance done somewhere else. You must keep records. Kia's warranty manual states routine maintenance must be a reliable vendor and of a quality that matches Kia.

I was taking my 2007 Toyota to the dealership for routine maintenance but it felt like I was getting the "your at xxx amount of miles so we need to do xxx". And while that approach applies to some things, not all the things they were trying to sale me. They have been trying to replace my entire power steering housing ($1800) for years because it has a small leak during the hot summer months. I have never had to add power steering fluid.

I did my research and found a local mechanic (father and son) business that was established in 1979 and only hires ASE certified technicians. I took them my Toyota, I got a full report with pictures of what they were looking at under the car. I was blown away at the thorough explanation. They even prioritized the work with time lines from immediate to 9 months. I plan to trust them with my Telly.

I agree with @Butch Cassidy find a reliable mechanic.
