• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2020 update 1 Available

I'm in the middle of the update. My experience - After clearing a lot of space on my laptop, I finally got the USB formatted and written. Stuck it in the data port and then started the car. It detected it and asked if I wanted an update. I chose the complete one and not the quick one. Car is idling in the garage after driving for an hour and only being 1/3 done on step 1 of 5. Will update when I have more to tell.

I can't remember where I read it -- could have been here -- but people were saying that for these kinds of updates the quick version is sufficient and complete doesn't really do anything different except take longer. I of course don't have any personal experience or inside information on this though.

On a related note, and please point me in the right direction if I missed this somewhere in the thread...but why go through the trouble to update this map when most can access arguably superior maps via CarPlay / Android Auto?
I having flashbacks to when I used to try to update my old Garmin, pre-smartphones.

Its still nice to have the new maps, especially for free. I use the navigation very rarely - its just no where near as accurate as google maps... wrong ETAs, ugly design, incorrect traffic and other issues.
I mainly update for the new software updates, but this doesn't have any so I am in no rush.

Some of the speed limits in my area that show up on the HUD are incorrect. I'm hoping that they are fixed.

i think the key is that its maps AND software. for example, while its not in this update, hopefully one day a software update will include support for full-screen android auto on the widescreen displays.

If you haven’t yet updated to 14 (the update from earlier this year), updating enables split screen for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. This allows for more versatility with CarPlay if you want it, but the main benefit is for Android users, because it means that right third of the display is no longer blank and worthless. That is a major reason right there.

It looks like 3 hours for step 1. I started at 12:02.......IMG_6577.jpg

Should’ve done the quick update. That’ll get you done in <30 mins typically.
I'm a glutton for punishment. Someone's got to do it.....

2 main reasons to update, first is I get spotty cell reception outside NYC, when I visit my dad there's a good few dozen square mile deadzone, I had to get him a VOIP cell booster. I find the maps just as good as Google, only way Waze is superior is by having notifications of hazards and cops hiding. Second thing is it's a very integral part of the HDA system, I noticed it was far more reliable after the ver14 update, before it was somewhat unstable and felt like it struggled to hold the lanes. It's pretty simple upgrade process, easier than a Garmin, which itself isn't too hard either think only trouble is going through basecamp to make the map package fit on the limited disk size.

After 2 1/2 hours map version 12.47.44.510.205.3. Oops.

Definitely do the quick update. New map version 13.47.44.680.201. Not 14 like people were expecting. It also updated the Nav ,Firmware, and Software versions.

The map version number doesn’t directly correspond with the update number.

Version 14 earlier this year was 13.41.42.660.202.

Version 14.5 out now is 13.47.44.680.201.

Looks way too complicated for a newbie like me. Ill leave it alone.

Quick update worked fine for me. Kept car in accessory position with battery tender connected. Took about 45 min-ish. Split screen on CP was enabled by default, had to dig to find setting to turn it off which required the phone to be unplugged!. Temp on weather was iin Celsius, and I could not find an option to change to Fahrenheit. I gave up and when I went to turn off the car which requires a push of Start button to turn car on, unit changed to Fahrenheit automatically!

I guess I'm running 2 versions behind. my SW Ver. is ON.USAS5W_M.V003.002.190813. Map Ver 12.47.44.510.205.3. However, the dropdown on the updater only shows a SW Ver. of
ON.USA.S5W_M.V004.001.200702. Can I still do the quick update or should I do the full update?

Always do a quick update unless you feel like wasting your time.

I successfully updated our 2021 EXP tonight. I did the quick update (thanks to @ksyrah for your full update horror story!), and it took about 30 minutes. The vehicle came from the factory with NAM.12.47.44.510.205.3, and is now at NAM.13.47.44.680.201. I haven't had time to explore much since the update, but I was able to turn on split screen in Android Auto, and have noticed some differences in the map controls. I'm also now seeing traffic alerts in my area for the first time.
