Well, I can tell you what works for me. It's a bit of a dance, but here goes.Yeah, I bought the ontto ones off of Amazon - I wish I had read the reviews first. They work fine if you push any of the buttons on the fob. Also, no problems starting the car with the fob in my pocket. But unlocking/locking the doors by pushing the door handle button while the fob is in my pocket is an exercise in frustration. I would say it works maybe 25% of the time, at best. The rest of the time I end up having to pull the fob out and hit the unlock or lock button on the fob. And the weird thing is the car always recognizes my approach (side mirrors open up), so why the door won't then unlock is a mystery. Either way, I'm chalking it up as a $40 loss for buying two ontto covers, and I'll just buy another brand instead. Too bad, because I love how they look.
First, it seems that the fob likes to point towards the rear of my pocket (I have keys attached to the end of it... so the keys face forward and the fob points to the rear), and then if I walk up to the door and stand beside the handle, it unlocks or locks just fine using the button on the door handle. But I truly believe the aluminum metal case style fob covers that I bought.... though super protective and very well fitted and water resistant... do an excellent job of shielding the signal coming from the fob. So I've now ordered the silcone versions noted further up in this thread and am anxiously awaiting their arrival as a replacement for the metal covers.
Related side note: I've also purchased a couple of Farraday cage style fob cases from Amazon as a means to prevent fob signal theft and replication (you can Google this theft process, and it's something folks should pay some consideration to... especially if you leave your keys/fob near the front door of your home when you come inside).... so the fob covers may soon be a moot point for me.
