2021 SX First 500 miles

Fellow San Antonian here (Spring Branch actually). Just picked mine up at Moritz in Ft Worth on Saturday. Gravity Gray SXP Nightfall (AWD). It is the wife's car, but I drove it home from Ft Worth. Didn't want the trip to end.

To your point #7 above, I have 2018 Accord that tries to kill me at the all of the ramp changes as well. It was a pleasant surprise that the Telly doesn't have that flaw.

To your point #9, I'll be getting a pedal commander when they are available again, but the wife doesn't mind one way or the other.

We absolutely love it. I had to wash it on Sunday night when we got home since we drove it back through the butterfly plague we're experiencing in the Hill Country right now. Cleaned up real nice. We'll be taking it to Disney World for Thanksgiving. So we'll really get to put it through the paces on a road trip. Gotta say, I'm looking forward to it.

FWIW, I ordered mine on the 3rd weekend in August.
Yeah I went through the great butterfly plague as well. I washed them off quickly when I got home but luckily came off easy with the front PPF. I had a ton stuck to my radiator coils so that took some time to clean up.

I noticed that the coils were already getting pretty beat up. I am thinking of purchasing a black metal mesh to somehow attach to the back of the grille openings to try to protect the radiator coils better. I was surprised how much damage it had after only 500 miles. If anyone has any ideas I am all ears.

Hi Mark,

Take a look at post #122 and this thread. I went through the same issue, and Telluride Screen was a good solution.

Good luck,
Z.

Nice! That is basically what I was thinking of doing. I'm not a huge fan of how the upper grill looks with the screen so I will probably end up doing the same thing Tellthemride did with the gutter guard but with a metal. Thanks for pointing me to this thread!

I had my front four windows tinted at XPEL with their Prime XR Plus ceramic tint. I did 30% on the front and 70% on the back since it is already tinted and they match really well. What XPEL told me was that the tinting that comes with the car is ONLY color privacy glass and doesn't provide heat rejecting properties. I had my other car tinted at another place with a high quality ceramic and I can tell the XPEL stuff is much better at heat rejection. I recommend XPEL100% for window tint!

If heat rejection is the goal - why not do the back three windows and sunroofs as well? Honestly curious about the thinking behind having only having two of the factory tinted windows tinted? This is the first time I have ever heard of putting tint on factory tinted glass. I makes sense...just hadn't thought of doing that.

Main reason for not doing every piece of glass was cost. It would have been $1000 for all windows plus windshield, but not including sunroofs. I had just spent a bunch on the PPF and Tuxmats so I didn't want to go overboard...yet. 😁

I wanted to have heat rejection where people are sitting which in my case is only those four seats. So when direct sunlight is coming
through any of the windows, you can't feel it on your body. If it's coming through the sunroofs, I'll close the sunroofs.

I didn't care about leaving the car out in the sun for hours and coming back to a hot car bc I didn't get all glass done...that is gonna happen no matter what in Texas, as you know.

I wanted the windshield done but had heard too many easily cracking windshield stories on this forum so decided against it for now.

To all my San Antonians in here.... where would you recommend placing an order because I'm not feeling Ancira & World Car.

Don. I wasn't a big fan of either as well. One of them even told me they didn't have a markup only to find out they had mandatory dealer add-ons that they were charging $3500 for $500 of actual value.

There are a few dealers selling for MSRP but they are getting harder to find. I bought mine from @StephenCantrelle and he has been amazing. His dealership is charging over MSRP now but he was great to work with and kept you up to date the whole way. He is also a great contributer to this forum.

Thanks. Not sure how soon I'll pull the trigger. But if I were able to put an order in ....how long of a wait would I be looking at? Just a ballpark figure.

4-6 months would be my guess

Depends on the trim, how many orders that dealer has before you, and how many allocations that dealer gets per month. But a ballpark figure is 3-4 months if you order. I would talk to a dealer for better info.

Hey did you get your car?!?!

Hey did you get your car?!?!
Hey man, yup sure did. Just got home from the 2 day, 14 hour road trip. I think I killed an entire species of butterfly on the way back. Washing it tomorrow with the products you recommended to me. Dealership seems to have done a good job on the ppf.

Good to hear! Enjoy!

I bought mine from Mike Shaw Kia in Corpus. They charged $1,890 over MSRP for their dealer package which was the cheapest I had found.
I drove different Tellurides at World Car but their markup was way more than I could justify.
Mike Shaw Kia sent me a 20 minute long YouTube link tour of the 2021 SX I was interested in so we could see the actual car without driving to Corpus.
They drove it to our house here in SA to deliver it and do the paperwork. Great experience.
Vanessa was my salesperson. Eddie Perry is the sales manager.
Years ago Mike Shaw had supported a non-profit I was running so I had extra motivation to support him in return. It helped a ton that they had a badass Everlasting Silver AWD SX for the best deal I’d found. Haha

And you got the BEST color👍

And you got the BEST color👍

Ancira Kia was the first dealership that really made me feel like they wanted my business so I was pretty sure I'd end up buying from them. The number that was texting me changed people a couple of times though. And they'd told me that they weren't marking them up. Amazing. But they didn't have any inventory so I ended up driving around to different World Cars to check out different trim levels. I loved the look of the Everlasting Silver on the Kia website, but even seeing videos of the color on YouTube I wasn't sure what it actually would look like in person. Ancira Kia finally got in an Everlasting Silver. It was an EX model which is what I initially wanted. I excitedly go over to drive it.

The salesperson told me that they weren't letting people drive them anymore. Then he told me about their dealer package that was around $8k. I told him as a consumer there's no way I could ever feel OK paying for that. Told him about World Car selling it for $5,999 over MSRP with their package.

Went home that night and started searching for other dealers within driving distance and noticed the Mike Shaw name. He has Freedom Chevrolet here in San Antonio but I didn't know he had a Kia dealership. When I called Vanessa answered and she told me they purposely have a lower dealer package than others so they can sell them faster. The faster they sell the more Tellurides Kia will send to them.

Some dealers get extra crazy with the SX trim. When I was calling around Texas one dealer told me to submit my best offer and they'd let me know a couple days later where I stood. haha I told him MSRP.

When I saw the Everlasting Silver AWD SX with the towing package on the Mike Shaw Kia website I pretty much knew it was game over for my search. They were very easy and actually fun to deal with so I'm not hesitant to recommend them to anyone.

If anyone is looking check out their inventory here: 2020 Kia Telluride For Sale In Corpus Christi TX If they have something similar to what you'd want to order anyway it's nice to get one of the best deals out there and have your Telluride immediately.
