2021 Telluride 2 Wheel Drive Slow Downshift

The transmission downshift and the accompanying engine acceleration are extremely slow; even slower than on turbos I have had. Especially a problem when driving aggressively through a sharp curve. Appropriately punching the acceleration to pull out of the curve results in no response till after the curve is negotiated. Similarly the acceleration needed move away from a light or to pass a vehicle comes on slowly and starts some 1.5 to 2 seconds after pressing the accelerator. Changing the "Drive Mode" has no effect. This is a naturally aspirated engine, response should be instantaneous even with a multi speed transmission.. I have a GMC 2016 with a 6 speed and it responds properly, There is no lag no matter what you do. The dealer responds with "all is within spec".

I haven't experienced this in my car. Bummer that it's happening. The behavior sounds like Eco Mode. I wonder whether your car is somehow stuck in Eco Mode all the time no matter what it's reporting on the dash.

I have AWD and it behaves the same, my only complaint about the car. Sport mode does make it better on mine.

Good question. When you go into Echo Mode does your Telluride go into the slow shift pattern I describe? Is there a noticeable change in the downshift pattern with changing mode selection?

I ran an errand in Eco Mode. While it was softer than Comfort or Sport, I didn’t think the delay exceeded a second. Shift points are no doubt delayed. The shift itself seems to be a deliberate, leisurely transition (not crisp changes). I accelerated out of corners, and I felt downshifts somewhat post apex.

Your description sounds like your car is unfortunately on the laziest possible version of Eco Mode! Not as fun, though I hope you’re seeing incredible fuel economy.

I noticed the same thing. Very poor acceleration. Wished I had paid more attention to this when I test drove it; may have changed my mind. Can we modify the computer settings to make it more responsive?
