2022 Kia Telluride! What to expect.

My wish list...

*All digital gauge cluster.
*Power steering wheel adjustment (tied to memory settings)
*WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO!!

I ordered a 21’ AWD SX Gravity Grey Telluride with Prestige, Nightfall, and Towing packages back in October 2020. My dealer has reported a few weeks ago my order still hasn’t hit production. I plan to call by the end of the month if I don’t hear anything but they assured me they would call once my order was pulled for production - no word still. Anyhow, I assume based on previous releases is that I might be eligible for a 22’ model. It is frustrating that I can not find anything rumors on what the 2022’s will provide in terms of refinements/upgrades.

Considering the 22’s will be the third year and vehicle manufacturers have their models typically on a five year cycle. So I do not plan to have some radical changes in upgrades. Since I do not have a Telluride, my list is based on what is available and a lot of YouTube/Forum feedback on the vehicle. None the less, I’d like to see the following with that said:

- Kia’s Dynamic Directionally Adaptive Headlights
- Auto-dimming side mirrors (really surprised this isn’t already part of the higher trims)
- Factory installed trailer brake controller with or separate from the existing Tow Package (highly unlikely)
- Installed wiring should include a 4 and a 7 pin to avoid customers from needing an adapter if using a 4-pin hitch device (i.e., cargo carrier, trailer, boat, etc.).
- Digital Gauge Cluster similar to the Hyundia Palisade
- Approach lighting (probably for only keyless access models)
- Passenger lumbar support and thigh extension (higher trims I’d assume)
- Wireless Apple/Android
- better all weather floor mat options throughout the vehicle


Other’s that are beyond wishful thinking:

- Engine variation (V6 and V8 options) or a turbo option or even a hybrid for better gas mileage
- electronically adjusted air suspension
- A little more towing capacity - whatever it would take to raise the bar to a range of 5500 - 6500
- weight distribution for towing (goes with above)
- second tranny cooler (or at least identify the one that might be there and goes with above 2 lines)
- Heat/Ventilated third row seats just cause kids in the back need that too, or just in case I get stuck in the back rather than piliot seat.
- Panoramic window in second row available to open
- A couple of USB-C ports or at least two (one in the infotainment location and another by the 110 outlet in the second row)
- True AWD or something similar to Subaru‘s symmetrical AWD that is active at all times not just when the vehicle ”thinks” you need it
- Paddle shifters in the back of the steering wheel
- integrated sunshades in the third row
- cargo cover ability to use with third row up
- mood lighting into the third row and cargo area
- thigh extension for passenger seating
- storage under the gear shift and cup holder area that is similar to the Hyundai Palisade for the wife‘s purse
- on board WiFi

I am sure there are other ideas that are wishful but not alien like topics.

If they do that I hope it's optional. Being an old fart, I much prefer the analog gauges. I agree with your on the other two items.

Me too. That was another reason that went into the cons list for palisade.

Please keep the traditional shifter Kia !!

Please keep the awesome analog gauges with the hands both rotating clockwise AKA the correct direction . Love seeing car gauges there the moment I step into the car whether it’s on or off.

Maybe a lockable compartment option for the storage well area so I can technically keep certain items regulated by BATF in a locked area because Telly doesn’t have a trunk?

True, obviously. However, the core and realistic list is the following like I mentioned above.

- Kia’s Dynamic Directionally Adaptive Headlights
Shouldn’t be that much more in cost and maybe only include in higher trims similar to what they do with the LED headlights

- Auto-dimming side mirrors (really surprised this isn’t already part of the higher trims)
Again, shouldn’t be that much more in price. I fee like this is a luxury and a safety feature with how bright headlights are now days

- Factory installed trailer brake controller with or separate from the existing Tow Package (highly unlikely)
This would be an add on option and wouldn’t be a standard feature so how would this increase base pricing? Benefit here is it would be factory installed if a customer chose to pay for that.

- Installed wiring should include a 4 and a 7 pin to avoid customers from needing an adapter if using a 4-pin hitch device (i.e., cargo carrier, trailer, boat, etc.).
Again, this would be an add on option and wouldn‘t be a standard feature so how would this increase base pricing? In the Tow Package they include a 7-pin so why not have a dual connection. Can‘t imagine that costing significantly more. Besides, customers are already paying extra for the Towing.

Pull this from the Palisade, utilize parts and I’d assume this could cut costs by producing one dash versus two dashes

- Approach lighting (probably for only keyless access models)
Not sure how this could really be that much more in cost. Proximity sensors configured to illuminate existing lighting on the car.

- Passenger lumbar support and thigh extension (higher trims I’d assume)
I’d assume this would be the larger expense included but I also would think that they could offset some cost by reducing the number of ”lower

- Wireless Apple/Android
I’d assume there is a module for this and configuration so might be a bit of cost increase

- Better all weather floor mat options throughout the vehicle
Considering the carpet floor mats are about $210....seems like a waste to me so why not offer all weather mats? I didn’t even order floor mats because I am willing to pay a little more for more durable floor mat set.

One of the big things that wins people to the Telluride is value. Great looks and lots of content for a very reasonable price. How do they achieve that price? By making smart choices and leaving out things that the majority of people don't care about if they're not shopping a luxury brand -- things like an all-digital gauge cluster, power folding seats. No one's going to NOT buy a crossover they otherwise love because it doesn't have power folding third row seats.

I think the following would be realistic/reasonable for a '22/'23 refresh and would probably appeal to the masses to keep the Telluride competitive while not causing the price to jump and wrecking the value attraction:

1. Wireless CarPlay
2. LED headlights on more trims
3. Small convenience/lighting tweaks like approach lighting and auto dimming mirrors
4. A modest bump in engine power -- this is my one real problem with the Telluride, I wish it has just a bit more, like 320 or 330 hp base.

In the "maybe" category:

1. Power steering column adjust linked to memory (most near-luxury crossovers the high end Tellurides compete with have this feature)...I'd personally love to have this
2. Digital gauge cluster. This is a costly addition but may be "necessary" to avoid falling too far behind the competition, even though I (as a techie, even) see little value in the all-digital gauge clusters and think the combo analog/digital clusters are the sweet spot.
3. Adaptive headlights. Nice, but pricey.
4. A high performance GT trim. TT V6 from the Stinger. Fast SUVs are all the rage...but they can barely keep up with demand as it is for their current trim options.

As a product planner, these are ideas I'm seeing in here that just don't make sense for this kind of vehicle:

1. WiFi. Why? We all have cell phones with hot spots. You really want to pay for another cellular device? This adds cost (and support/warranty burdens) for something that is duplicative of what most people already have in their pockets.
2. More towing hardware like trailer brake control. Let's face it, most people don't tow with their Tellurides. It's meant for a jetski or two and that's it.
3. Paddle shifters. Again, why? Who is going to shift their big under-300hp crossover manually...with paddle shifters? On the rare occasion you might need to actually control the gear, just use the shifter. This is a smart omission because no one is going to NOT buy the Telluride because it doesn't have paddle shifters.

It's so ridiculous how Kia is holding the telluride from being produced. Which keeps the demand high. I understand a month wait for a new vehicle but some people on here are saying 8 months they've been waiting! That's crazy; and you might as well just wait 1yr and get the next one by that point.

What would you like to see on the new ones? Here's what I'd like to see:

1. Dual side twin pipes
2. More GOT dang horsepower and torque! Better throttle response.
-at least for the SX model. 365hp would do just right
3. 1in more legroom in 3rd row seating, 2nd row seats that fold up as well so you have better access to 3rd row.
4. REAL AWD system
5. Bigger/better Infotainment
6. Headlights that turn with direction of steering wheel
7. LARGER glove compartment
8. Clearmotion Suspension
9. Ceramic Brakes
10. 20+ speaker Harman Kardon System with Better Subwoofer (Cadillac has 36 speaker system!)

I do realize these features may increase price--which may make the "reasonable" addendums justified.

For heavens sake QUIT MARKING THEM UP! The manufacturer says MSPR then that's the MAX I'm paying. $10k-$15k markup is outrageous folks. Stop paying it.

Let's talk about it!

Overall I am pleased with my Telly but there are some areas that could use upgrading.
- Although the led headlamps through plenty of light, curve adaptive headlights should be standard equipment on a vehicle that is touted for its safety features.
- Power folding 3rd row like the Ford Explorer
- The cargo area and 3rd row lighting is dismal and needs improvement
- Lastly just for the coolness factor KIA should seriously consider rear suicide doors like on the concept car.

I wonder if the new 2022 tellurides will have a rear wiper like the carnival does which is tucked under the rear window wing so you don’t see it really when it’s not in use giving the back a more sleek look. I’d like that.

That would be incredibly unlikely, even for a mid-cycle refresh (which surely will not be happening for 2022). Probably won’t happen until a full redesign. The fact that the new and Sorento and Carnival have this type of design does bode well for future iterations, though.

I agree. I do not like the button select shifters at all. I don’t care if I get a tad bit more center console storage or whatever there reasons for the buttons are. I want to pull a shifter back to select a gear not turn a lever or push a button.
