• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I have a 2023 SX prestige xline with self leveling shocks, and my rear shocks have failed. Thumping noise coming from the rear, noticeable at lower speeds with small bumps. At the dealer yesterday, there was another guy there that was complaining about the same noise from the rear. I heard the service advisor come in and tell him his shocks were bad and they need replaced. I’m now convinced this is a much larger problem, likely affecting many units, and people probably don’t even realize they are driving around on bad shocks. The noise is rather subtle, but it’s there. Anyone else experience rear shock failure?

Yes! I have the same problem with my 2023. I was at the Kia dealership yesterday and they said my shocks had to be replaced. The tech told me 3 other customers were in that day with the same issue. It's obviously a larger issue

I'm on a 2022 and just replaced my 2nd set of shocks after 30K miles on it. It doesn't seem to affect driving too much, but it does make unpleasant noises. I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect but I feel like it rides a tad higher after the shocks are replaced.

Exactly the same experience here, with the feeling of a higher ride height!

My mechanic told me two weeks ago that my rear shocks likely need to be replaced in my 2021 SXP. I haven't heard or felt anything unusual, but seeing thread this has me wondering if its affecting most Telluride's.

They put new insulators on mine several months ago but they are still bad. I have a new appointment for them to look at them (again). There were some rumors that a recall might require new different shocks, but nothing so far. The way to get this COMMON problem fixed is to report it to the NHTSA (I have already done so). When they get enough complaints, it activates the process for holding the manufacturers accountable. Here is the link: Resources Related to Investigations and Recalls | NHTSA

If everyone reported it here, we would be more likely to get a real resolution from Kia instead of just replacing the insulators, then replacing the same defective shocks, sometimes twice or more. Resources Related to Investigations and Recalls | NHTSA

Yes on my 2020 Tell. Very rough ride all of a sudden and dealer said they weren't familiar with any issues and $2000 to replace just rear shocks. In 40 years of owning vehicles never had to replace shocks. Took it to local tire place and they said this was a well known issue in this vehicle, but they couldn't do the work to replace.

my car was just diagnosed today with a right rear shock failure. I brought it in for an engine light problem and they discovered a broken igniter coil, and I had mentioned there had been a right rear passenger noise. They confirmed only the right side shock was broken, but will be replacing both rear shocks and repairing, the coil and spark plug all for free. I had an extended warranty with Lucas Boehm through Kia of Muncie and so it’s all completely covered with NO deductible at all. Once again, thank you Lucas for the deal on the extended warranty! Free wiring harness repair, now repair this in the same calendar year!

2021 SX P/T 74,500 miles

Started noticing the clunking/knocking noise a few thousand miles after my big 60k service.

At my 67,500k I drove the tech around the block into parking areas with dips/speed bumps to reproduce the sound:

Definitely the rear shock absorbers, made by Mando in the style of the Sachs Nivomat self-leveling shock absorbers.

Dealership contacted KIA and got a reply within a few days, offered to cover the parts for replacement but labor's on me: $500-560 2023 Commiefornia rates.

The vehicle drives fine but there's no range of compression like before, super stiff, at least there's no rear end sag, but it used to be fun to picnic and enjoy dining out sitting on the back of the Telly during the insane CA lockdowns.

The shocks barely compress now, will get fixed before 75k but I'm wondering if it's better just to invest in standard shocks?

Are there any proven, reliable aftermarket options from a top-tier shock manufacturer that y'all have installed?

I have this exact same issue! I took it to the dealership and they told me that they didn’t hear anything. After having taken it on a 300 mile road trip, I know that it is for sure the rear shocks!

The dealer changed the insulators on my 2020 SX Prestige 2 years ago; last month, they replaced a shock - it was broken. Still no recall, but the warranty covered the repairs. When it is outside the warranty period, the only way to get them repaired without charge is if there is a recall.

I have a 2021 sx prestige with what sounds to be same issue. 33000 miles and ride became harsh and seems to easily bottom out. Have an appointment at dealer.

Yes they replaced only some boot but the noise is back again. I will be calling the dealership again tomorrow for another appointment.

I have a 2023 Pro AWD and am hearing the same noises from the rear. At first I thought something was rolling around in the covered compartment back there. Am planning to take it into the dealership and see what they say. Glad to have this forum to back me up!

My dealer replaced both rear shocks even though only one was broken. He said you never replace just one; they needed to be replaced together. He compared it to not replacing one tire as they wear down simultaneously, so need to be replaced at same time. Replacing both was covered under warranty.

Did it fix the problem?
