If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2023 Rear Shock Failure

Thanks ya’ll, glad I found this thread. This just happened to my 2021 EX at 30K miles. Unfortunately it made my wheels wear unevenly and now need to be replaced. Hopefully it is covered…

Just submitted the claim on that link above. Only took me about 2 minutes. Hopefully more people submit it too so a real fix occurs.

My dealer replaced both rear shocks even though only one was broken. He said you never replace just one; they needed to be replaced together. He compared it to not replacing one tire as they wear down simultaneously, so need to be replaced at same time. Replacing both was covered under warranty.
Actually that is not true. The dealerships have to take the bad ones back to Kia to get their credit. I had my passenger rear replaced and I asked them if the other one needs to be replaced and that is what they told me. It would be fraud if they replaced a good one that isn't bad yet.

Would it benefit us to file a class action lawsuit against KIA because of these rear shocks?

2022 Kia Sorento x-line. Both shocks replaced and within 3 weeks it’s making the same sound again.

Hi folks, It was recommended that I replace my rear shocks also and I was provided a quote from my dealer. Soon after I received a letter from Kia saying it was now covered under the 10y-100k warranty. So they replaced the rear shocks on their dime. Fast forward to today, the same sounds are coming from my 2021 telluride and they are telling me now that it is the insulator that needs replacing and they don't cover that under warranty. Not sure I agree with that logic so what is the process to get Kia to include the insulator in the original warranty? Thanks!

Wow that’s complete BS! This should absolutely be covered under the warranty. I think I got a letter in the mail that warranties the rear shocks for 15 years, due to all of the problems with them. Insulators should absolutely be a part of this.

This is an unfortunate downside of warranty work. Most shocks (many other parts of the vehicle) have several parts that make up the whole.
In the case of most rear shocks they have the; Shock, dust boot, mounting hardware, mount (isolator above) and/or a rubber washer inside the dust boot to keep it centered.
Kia will pay for the defective part. However in order to keep costs down, they don't pay for all of the attached parts. Anytime one gets warranty work done such as the above, one should ASK "what else is attached" then pony up.

Yes it sux, it's a fact and has been this way for a VERY LONG TIME.

I started hearing noise coming from the rear at 32k miles. Brought it in and they replaced both rear shocks (55367-S9KA0FFF). The next day I heard the noise again and it got progressively worse over the course of a week. Brought it back in and they told me the left side shock mount rubber was torn, and the right side mount was loose. They replaced both mounts (55310-S1150). 24 hours later and the noise is back. Maybe they aren't replacing the defective part? Has anyone explored or considered replacing the self-leveling shocks with the non self-leveling shocks?

Maybe it's the rear viscous coupler.....these are failing on these cars with very low miles. I

I’m going through the exact same problem as you. 2022 SXP 50k - non leveling. Have it on another thread. I’ve had rear shocks replaced twice in a week. The latest failed on my way home from the dealership. Filed a complaint with consumer affairs, believe the couple went bad too but hard to tell with bad shocks. The easiest way to tell if your shocks failed is if they’re leaking oil. In all three cases, I could see oil residue or visibly dripping. On the shock. The residue is on the control arms and inner wheel. The shocks are obviously bad. They need to fix it asap as I refuse to take it back only to be replaced and fail again.

My 2021 SX Prestige Nightfall is scheduled to have the rear shocks replaced in a couple of days. I started to notice the noises and a rougher ride at about 26k miles. Parts had to be ordered and didn't arrive until the day before I was leaving on a 1,800-mile road trip. Unfortunately, the dealer couldn't fit me in before my trip, but I had no issues with the shocks during the trip.

I own a '21 EX AWD with self-leveling shocks, 46k miles. Both rear shocks failed and were replaced last week (under warranty that expires in a little over a month). Getting in and out for service was a clown show with my local dealer, but they replaced the shocks free of charge and the ride has improved greatly. They didn't bat an eye when I told them the rear suspension was clunking and stiff going over small bumps, and their first response was that they "suspected" the repairs would be covered under warranty. I immediately got the feeling they have done the same job on many other Tellys, but they didn't confess that. As others have stated, if your dealer is giving you a hard time I would refer them to Kia's TSB for the self-leveling shock failure and the associated warranty extension for the shock issue even if your factory warranty has expired.

You should have received a letter from KIA extending the warranty on the shocks to 15 Years ( I think). The shock replacements made a huge difference in ride comfort.

Had the rear shocks replaced under extended warranty and they worked fine until, they started making noises again and the service tech said it was the shock insulator. They said the insulator replacement was not covered under warranty, if you look at the insulator it doesn't seem possible to replace the shocks with changing out the insulators. Why are they not part of the warranty? My 100k warranty is about to expire by the way.
