• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I have a 22 SX with 13,000 miles. In the last week my wife experienced where at a stop the ISG engaged but when she went to resume driving there was no restart. This happened more than once but she was able to put the car in park and get it to restart. This occurred intermittently over the course of a week.

Yesterday we had a small road trip and it did the same thing for me so I turned the ISG off and no problems on the front side of the trip, but on the way home it had the no start problem for me. I stopped at a automotive store and the battery checked out OK.

Today I backed the car out of the garage in the morning and then went to drive it in the afternoon and it would not start. Just a single ”click” when the ignition button was pushed. Gave it multiple attempts. All the accessories were working, but no crank. Tried jumping it with no success. After sitting for 25 minutes I tried it again and it started??

Took it for a long drive to make sure the battery had a chance to charge but when I did a test stop with the ISG activated it stalled and would not start. After multiple attempts and holding the start button down I finally got it started.

After getting home and waiting 20 minutes I did a couple of test starts it fired up right away. I’m totally baffled!!! When I called to get it in to the dealership the first available appointment was July 25th! 🤬

If this were me -- I wouldn't wait two months. I'd drive it to the dealer and insist that they assess the problem. Or take it to another KIA dealer that is more accommodating.

#1, tell dealer you are getting this AND another issue fixed, tell them you feel unsafe driving the car and worried about accidents the car can cause and injuries that may happen.... they will then tell you to come in in 10 minutes.

#2, ISG sucks. If there are people still thinking all the unnecessary starts do not prematurely wear out starter and other related parts, you are in a fantasy.

#3, ISG sucks. I turn this travesty of a gimmick off the moment I start driving. I am on my 2nd DINKY GETTER now and 4 years in, no ISG, no problems.

Trying to figure out how or if the ISG is related to the no start issue.

Its likely your battery is slowly dying. 25 minute drive is not enough to charge the battery fully, more like 4-5 hour drive would fully charge the battery.

Put the battery on a charger till its fully charged; see if all the strange behavior goes away. Expect the symptoms to come back. I suspect the battery is at end of life.

ISG kills batteries, it abuses the battery by stopping & starting the engine over and over. Starting a car is the deepest discharge mode for a car battery. Deep discharging the battery multiple times by stopping/starting the engine leads to a shortened battery life especially when combined with short trips (20 - 30 minutes) which do not allow the battery to recover its charge.

The other battery failure mode I have seen discussed on this forum is a parasitic draw caused by a defective IBU module which when defective puts a continuous drain on the battery. See this thread 2020 Telluride battery drain

Got it in to a dealership and they diagnosed it as a starter problem. Are replacing it under warrant.
Hopefully that resolves the issue.

Well there you have it -- another reason to consider turning off ISG or disabling it completely.
I am going start getting in the habit of turning it off every time I start the engine. Gas savings is miniscule - not even worth having it.

I have a 2022 SX and this has been happening to me for the past 6 months. It's happened at stop lights when the engine stops because of ISG but also has not started in our garage a couple of times. Did you ever find a solution?
