  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Long time lurker, first time poster here. I got a lead on a ‘21 SX non prestige, no tow package. They wanted 5k over msrp and finally came down to 3k over msrp. I’m willing to pay over their $1k deposit requirement. Not crazy about mating msrp in the first place but willing to do it given the market. Am I crazy for not taking 3k over or are they crazy for not taking much more money up front while I wait two months for delivery?

You are going to get a lot of "not a penny over MSRP or even cost". Ask yourself... what's the car worth to you today? Compare it to competing cars such as Toyota, Hyundai, Subaru, even Volvo. Do your homework, and then decide what you are willing to pay. It's economics with a pinch of emotional seasoning.
There are dealers whom charge MSRP, and you can chase them. You can take your time and keep looking. Eventually the supply will meet the demand the the price will come down. Or, you can take that SX if it meets all your needs, now, at the economics premium.
Can you wait?
Is the emotional seasoning too strong?
Is it a need or a want?
Will you regret it in the morning?

Best of luck!
Z.

We can definitely wait! No trade, so this is just a nice to have step up from our CRV. Just looking for a very specific color and trim level and the first place I called had one coming down the hatch soon

Yeah no VIN yet. I asked for sticker or vin and they had neither yet

In this case, I would definitely wait!
You are not in a hurry, don't let this forum's irrational exuberance influence you :) I meant it in the nicest possible ways :)

If you’re in a rush to get it, pay over MSRP. If not, order one or wait. I personally wouldn’t give a dealer business for trying to price gouge me.

Do what I did. Order with a refundable deposit, get your financing in line and keep an eye out on the forums and on FB for potential deals. That's what I did and I found a great deal on the model I wanted. I did, however, have to pay about 650 to get it shipped, but that was fine with me. THat 650 got me through the last 2 months and whatever time I would have waited for my new one. We also sold our Pilot, doing our best to line it up with the original, pre covid ETA, so again, that 650 was well worth it.

Local dealer in my area has two S models in the lot for sale right now, with $7990 dealer markup over MSRP! $3000 for a much more desirable SX is not so ridiculous. If it is EXACTLY what you want I would probably be tempted.

I really like the advice above. As long as your deposit is refundable, use it as a backstop and try to get a better deal!

They came down to 1500 over after a bunch of run around and I was considering it but the guy that picked up where the person on Friday left off was a jerk so I am sitting on it for now

If the deal is right for you, I like to say "I'm not marrying them, I'm just completing the deal." If the deal is wrong, I'd walk.
