• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... My wife and I and her mother-in-law (93 yrs old) just finished (evening of January 11) a 5,306 mile winter road trip starting from Eastern Washington zig zagging down to Texas, then up to the Midwest and back across I90 to our home in Eastern Washington. We were visiting our kids, our granddaughter, my wife's siblings, etc. Also, did some wonderful sightseeing at Grand Canyon on Christmas day (great weather on that day).

The Telluride did extremely well. Here are some highlights. First, we only ran into snowy weather our last day (yesterday), and that was only for about 30-40 miles are we were approaching Lookout Pass at the border of Idaho and Montana on I90. Heavy packed snow going up the the pass for about 30-40 miles. Put it in AWD (so easy) and kept it at about 30-35 mpg and passed dozens of semis and other cars (many of them stopped to put on chains). Also, had some heavy winds near Austin and some near Livingston Montana (about 40-50 mpg gusts), but the ride was fine. No issues with control. Other than that it was smooth sailing pretty much everywhere. Often we were cruising at 87-88 mph on long stretches of highways in Texas, and on I90 in South Dakota and Montana where the posted speed limit is 80 mph. The Telluride was so smooth, comfortable and fantastic to drive.

Surprisingly, even at those higher speeds, I averaged 24.3 mpg for the trip. (See odometer screenshot below.) Prior to the trip, I fretted about getting snow tires (and aluminum wheels to go with them), but decided the last minute to stick with the PIRELLI SCORPION that came from the factory. They were fine in this case, even on that 30-40 stretch of packed snow in Montana.

We actually made it in 2 days from Omaha (1,460 miles to our home in Eastern WA) which meant about 730 miles a day. The Telluride is so comfortable, we are realizing that longer distances seem okay for us (both in our mid-60s) compared to our previous cars (2019 Honda Insight and prior to that two new Honda Fits).

Nice write up. I see you only had 10k miles on those Pirellis when you started the trip. I wonder how you will feel if you tried the same trip next winter. I had no issues with mine at first. I was just disappointed as to how quickly they wore down.

Thank you for a great write up, enjoyed it.

Do you still have the Pirellis on your Telluride? When will (or did) you replace them? And what will/did you go with?
