However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. A History Lesson on Paying over MSRP

Yes. I can also argue that buying any new car borders on insanity.

great idea and premise, but damn, that was a poorly written article. He never finished the piece.

but yes, its a depreciating asset. If you have money to burn, then paying over MSRP is fine. Most of us dont. Many paying over MSRP dont have the money to do so, and there is a reason for that. Anyway, to each his/her own. Do what ya gotta do. Just beware of shady dealers

Imo, or bears repeating, that when we look at the features of the Telluride, the MSRP is low.

Look at the new Explorer, the Tahoe, Aviator, etc. Kia could've priced the SX at $49,000, plus $4,000 to go to AWD plus Prestige package and still been a comparative great value.

I believe those who are willing to pay above MSRP are thinking this very thing. For my wife and I, the Telluride compared directly to the 2019 BMW X5. the x5 MSRP the way she wanted it equipped was $69,000. It my opinion, the Kia warranty offsets the value of the BMW TT engine, so I feel like I got a true winner buying the Telluride.

Nonetheless, unless you are buying a first edition Hellcat or something else rare, history shows paying over MSRP is unwise.

I would have a harder time comparing a Telluride to a true luxury SUV on price. It’s a great value but you don’t have the brand cache compared to a BMW or Audi and that, in additional to high feature twin turbo motors and electronic suspensions, is what you’re paying for. Kia executed better on almost every front compared to say, the Pilot (the one exception being the incredible motor in the pilot which is faster than a twin turbo V6 explorer sport) but I wouldn’t say it’s worth any more money.

Agreed. Everyone should remember that these will be 3-4K under MSRP in 6 months . That’s a potential savings of $15k. If someone told me I could make $15k in 6 months I’d do a lot of weird stuff. Hell you could probably rent a Lincoln Navigator for 6 months before buying and still save $9k.

Let's mark this, because I don't believe you will be proven correct.

Yes, here we are at 6 months later. Kia has raised the MSRP on the Telly, many people are still willing to pay MSRP and above on these vehicles, AND auction values for pre-owned Tellurides show my SXP with 15,000 miles is worth more than I paid for it at WHOLESALE. What a crazy world it is....

I know it's easy to say now but I always thought from the very beginning, due to the scarcity and all the buzz, that there was no way I was ever going to get an SX at a lower price than I did back in May when they were offering $1500 rebate. I'm so glad I grabbed the first one that was made available to me. Waiting for months and then paying more would have really been a double whammy.

Yeah, MWeiland on the forum at Luther Inver Grove has a used 7000 mile Moss/Dune SXP listed on their website for $48k. I don't know what they paid or will sell it for, but it does illustrate the strong demand.

Tellurides are nice but I just can't justify paying $50,000 for a Kia SUV.

Then, honestly, your mind is poorly framed. You truly have no idea what a KIA is today regarding the phenomenal value and quality KIA represents. You are living 20+ years in the past.....

Then don't. Get an LX or S - around $35-38k. Or, go get a loaded Highlander or Pilot (hopefully with a discount). Buy a used Q7 - or a new one for 65k+. So many options... no reason to pay $50k for a Kia nor any reason to post about "justifying" the price of the SX-P. Makes no sense.

Just a personal preference ;)

Gotcha.

My other car is a 2016 Mercedes S550 (original MSRP was north of $110,000). The Telluride does not leave me wanting when I am in it rather than the S-Class. Just saying, KIA has come a very long way. To each his own though. I suppose this only matters if you know the luxury and performance of the Mercedes S-Class.

As said by various of us.......paying over MSRP is your choice and if you get what YOU want it's truly nobody else's opinion that counts!! That being said.......I have NEVER paid MSRP for any new car ( 30 purchases in the last 51 years ) but I also have been very fortunate to be able to pay "cash on the table".....the two "first year" models that I did that on were my Telly SX P and the first year model of the new C6 Corvette ....on each of those I said " I never have and never will pay MSRP or above......take $100 off of MSRP and I'm out the door today, if not ....bye bye and don't call me tomorrow!" 100 bucks wasn't much but it made me feel like "I win!"

$3-4K under MSRP 6 months from July 2019? Not even close. Many dealers are still getting MSRP or over and it's less than a week to February.

I would have predicted the same as you and if you look at the PT Cuiser, fiero, Hellcat, etc., those are all specialty cars with an inevitable quick drop in demand. Even expanding KT production to 100K, they still can't keep up nearly a year into what is becoming an iconic vehicle (we'll see if this holds over the next 20 years). I remember when Accord, Camry, and Taurus were introduced and tey are part of the lexicon.

I'm guessing the KT and Pali are perhaps the hottest mainstream vehicles ever. To a lesser degree, he early 2000s Honda Odyssey that commanded MSRP at many dealers, was very hot, and it took a few years for discounts to develop across all dealers. I bought mine early on at a dealer 30 min away to save $900 where my local dealer wanted MSRP.
