• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Admins... what gives?

I just made a post about wiring a dashcam, and now it's gone. No private messages, nothing.

Can someone explain what happened?
If it is your first few posts with a new account, it usually requires moderator review if you used a lot of photos in your post.

I experienced the same back in the day.

Thanks for the reply!

There were zero pictures, zero links, no profanity, no advertising, nothing off-topic. I was just wondering if someone had a pinout of the overhead console (where the map lights & roof controls are) so I can find the best wires to tap into for a dash camera. That's all I asked for.

I kept it on the page and refreshed a few times and then suddenly it was gone.

Yes, thank you. I did actually search before posting, and I did go through all of those threads. None of them addressed the specific question I had about simply tapping into the headliner console. They all speak of running cables right down to the fuse panel. That's something I'm hoping to avoid, as it's a lease vehicle and I'm trying to minimize the modifications to it.

That's why I posted my very specific question, and I really don't appreciate it being removed without notice and without my consent. I'm waiting to hear back from an admin as to why this happened.

Got it.

Are you by any chance open to the idea of a non-hardwired dash cam?

I'm trying to unplug everything to reduce as many sources of drain on the car battery as possible, so I'm actually looking for a non-hardwired dash cam that I can easily unplug and take with me, leaving fewer items in the car that attract thieving scumbags.

Got any recommendations?

Looking for a few options to compare :)

You probably forgot to add a link to the forum store, or didn't promote the site enough. If you haven't noticed, the owner of this site is ALL about monetizing this even though he sends you some super PC letter when you sign up claiming he's doing it to save the world and not for money

This is the strangest forum I've ever been on in that regards and Ive been on a lot of them.

I've never had any such issues.

You don't see the ads all over? You don't see that links to outside sources get changed? I've seen a fair amount of that in the last week or two.

You didn't get the welcome message?

You have been here longer than me, not sure how you are missing these things.

I obviously don't care enough to leave, but its just funny to me and doesn't add up to someone who just loves the car and does this as a hobby only. The man has a right to make all the money he can, just be honest about it is all.

i have no opinion on this matter or dog in the fight, but im fairly new here and now curious as to something you said.... is that why sometimes im reading a post where someone recommends and item and provides a link, to say like amazon, but when you click on it all it does is go to a kdmwarehouse or something different?

YUP

The guy who doesn't care about money REFUSES to allow any links to helpful sites or products, and sends any attempt to his store full of disgusting things no one should put on their car.

It makes no sense unless he's a huge liar, which I'm assuming based on facts and evidence. I'm with you tho, I don't really care, I got what information was relevant to me and overall find this forum helpful. I just don't like people who lie for no reason or virtue signal while behind the scenes are not at all sincere.

If I had to hazard a guess, it’s because your most recent post was a thread that was canceled before it even started due to political content nearly six months ago.

I won’t pretend I know how things work, but there may have been some automatic things happening based on that information.

Sites like this don't operate for free, ads are a necessary evil.

I've never had a post removed, I've never posted a link to the 'store', etc..

I don't see this anyone acting in any unreasonable manner with regard to posting links ( like links to products on Amazon, etc... ) ,

I just don't see any heavy handed behavior with regard to anything I've personally posted.

Store links to product pages work perfectly fine for me on this forum. Maybe it is an issue with people not posting the full URL correctly.

These are some bold words to say about the creator of this site who hosts it for free (with ad support) and keeps it running smoothly for all of us to use. I disagree 100%.

Maybe the link issue was fixed so I’ll take that back. But as the other commenters also saw it, I’m not making it up.

obviously this site can’t work for free, it requires ads or member support. It’s presented in a strange way compared to every single forum I’ve been on and that’s about a dozen.

maybe I’ll just to resistant to change. Either way it is what it is and I don’t think him making money is bad at all, it’s just presented in a weird way.

yeah i dont know. i was just curious as i am not a computer person at all. but there have been times when someone is mentioning a product and provides a link, but i end up KDMwharehouse or something like that. i just thought it was weird. maybe not linking it correctly. i dont really care, i was just wondering if thats what it was. the level of information/knowledge i get from this board far outweigh anything else that might be happening.....again, was just curious. no biggie

Certain "hot" words like ebay, amazon, and other Kia model names like Stinger, Sorento without specific links get automatically linked. The forum needs to generate revenue somehow to maintain itself. If you don't want automatic links, use the full address or link the product to the word.
Amazon - typed without any link
Amazon - used the above product link

Thank you for clarifying

I am not sure why your first post is removed. Only @Telluride Forum can answer that. However, are you looking for your 2nd post?

To everyone who replied: Thank you.

I get what some are saying about keywords like [a certain online retailer that is named after a river in South America] and such, and even the political post I made months ago being locked, but if there's an internal function that would prevent me from posting for either of those reasons, I would assume (being a software engineer) that it would happen immediately upon posting and would generate an error message, or notification that my post has been queued for review.

The fact is, the post was visible for about 30 minutes, and then it was gone. Poof. No notice, no message, nothing. Therefore, I find it hard to believe it was an internal anti-spam software function. It was manually removed. Furthermore, I never mentioned [a certain online retailer] in my post. I mentioned voltage, dashcams, and wiring. That's it. There were no "buzzwords" (that I can readily identify, but I'm open to correction), no links, no pictures, no product endorsements, no name brands, etc.

However, even if there was something of that nature in my post, you'd think the admin would at least have the courtesy of messaging me; "Hey, I know it seems silly, but for [insert a reason here] we avoid using [that] word..." I got nothing. And yet, this post wasn't taken down, and neither was the duplicate post I made in the interior mods section.

The admin has definitely seen this thread and declined to comment. I was hoping after 24 hours I'd at least see a "Oops, sorry, I deleted your post by accident, my bad" but again, nothing. It's a total mystery.

While I certainly respect a forum needing to have rules, and needing to moderate with discretion (and keep spam under control) and even advertise to pay the bills and put some beer money in their pocket, I am extremely uncomfortable being in a forum where not-so-obvious words are considered infractions, and even the most benign infractions can get your post removed entirely without explanation. If the admin had sent me a quick note (either an apology for nabbing the wrong post, or an explanation as to what I "did wrong") we wouldn't be having this conversation.

It seems to me that the person who posted the comment about the admin only caring about pushing his merchandise is closest to the mark. I do see a lot of promotion here, and I'm not against that. But I'm not feeling the "love of the vehicle" vibe that OUGHT to go along with it. And I'm certainly feeling the thumb of oppression and tyranny here, where the admin is clearly on a power trip and doesn't feel the need to at least hold himself accountable for his indiscriminate actions. I'm getting a big ego vibe out of this, almost like a "Oh well, I deleted your post either accidentally or for some obscure, nonsensical reason, and I don't owe you a lick of explanation. I am the all-powerful god of this universe, and you will deal with it and buy my products".

So at this point, I'm going to tidy up my account (I have some questions I need to answer in the other post I made) and then I'll be logging out of this account and not returning. We have enough tyranny in this world, I don't need more in a car forum where I asked a damn wiring question. Maybe I'll even start my own forum for Telluride owners and run it the way it should be run.

Good luck everyone. If you stick around here, you're going to need it.
