If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Advice - Two Options

We’ve been fortunate (and made enough calls) to track down two Tellurides that meet our specs:

Glacial White Pearl OR Wolf Gray
Black OR Dune interior
SX-P/N/T

One is confirmed as a ‘22, arriving early/mid July and has a handful of options we don’t care about (~$500).

The second one is supposedly a “customer order that the dealer messed up ordering” so is now available. Dealer says this is a 2021 - but also that it won’t arrive until early/mid July AND that a VIN is not available because it hasn’t been built yet. This doesn’t have the extra options that we don’t care about and is a bit cheaper.

We’re leaning toward the ‘22 thinking that for $500 more, we’d rather have the latest MY for future resale (and we slightly prefer the newer badging, not a big deal though).

However, if the one that is supposedly a ‘21 and hasn’t been built yet is actually a ‘22, it might be a better pick for us since it doesn’t have those few options we don’t care about.

Is it possible for a ‘21 to actually still be built? I had thought everything was now a ‘22.

Is this a red flag that the dealer with the ‘21 doesn’t know what they’re talking about - and might be better to avoid?

I’m not sure if the ‘21 is still being built, I’m sure there are others on here who are better informed that could answer that question.
One thing I can say after our recent experience is that some dealers (or sales staff) will say anything and seem to make things up if they think it will get a sale. I won’t go into the long version of what we did, but after placing 2 factory orders, then on the advice of Kia Canada continually checking with all our local dealers to see if one appeared, we finally purchased one yesterday! Unless you know your dealer well, I wouldn’t take their word for it when placing your order. They very well may have no idea what they’re talking about. Good luck!

Go for the '22 for the reasons you stated. Sounds like both are what you want, might as well get the "newest" option. $500 extra on this specific vehicle is nothing in this crazy market. GL

Makes sense. Only thing that has me held up is - if there really aren’t any ‘21s being built, then I suspect they’re both ‘22s. And if that’s the case, I can save that $500 and put it toward other add-ones.

Think there’s any chance this dealer is actually getting a ‘21, or is everything now a ‘22?

I believe '21s are being produced as we speak still. Should see final deliveries of them throughout the next month to various locations. I'd take the '22

Yes, but none should still be without a VIN... I'd bet this one ends up a 22, and the dealer doesn't know what they're talking about. Happens far too often.

You were right! Dealer replied just now saying someone else claimed it AND it turned out that it was a MY22.

I have to say, I’ve never bought a vehicle yet where the dealer was as informed as the customer. Frustrating.

At least there’s another one for us hopefully lined up!

I think you'd be well advised to hurry up and put down a deposit on it. In this market, with this vehicle, dilly-dallying isn't an option.

Your salesman may not know what the hell he's doing but rest assured the finance guy will. Haha
If you haven't already, best put a deposit on that other '22 before it's gone.

I've found this the case with quite a few Kia dealers, unbelievable how uninformed they are. Especially when the Telluride has been the hottest selling vehicle for Kia for a couple years now.

This dealer (the more knowledgeable) is saying no deposit required (located in OH).

Great/honest dealer? Or not a real deal and we need to be cautious?

Depends on the dealer. I'd check the good dealer section and search for dealer's name. Did you get a firm commitment on price? What's likely to happen is that you'll get there and be hit with a several thousand markup. I'd work out all of the purchase details with a sales manager before traveling. Good luck.

Great tips, thank you for this!
