• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Planning on having a hitch installed. The installation company said I wouldn't need the extra expense of the hitch bumper. Anyone else put on a hitch without the bumper? I just need a hitch for a bike carrier, no wiring needed.

The hitch bumper cleans up the look mainly.

There are a few aftermarket hitches.. most don't require more than a minor cutting of the bottom of the stock bumper cover.

At most your cutting a small cover that gets replaced when putting on the OEM hitch, not the entire rear bumper molding.

I personally am going for the OEM hitch because it's reciever sits up higher and I like that. The hitch and new cover is a little more expensive than the aftermarket hitches but for me, it's a better option.

I you just want a bike carrier and don’t want the bumper cover for OEM look, Drawtite now makes one that hangs just below and reportedly no cutting required.

Here are all the options I have found: After market hitch

Hitch bumper (cover plate) only works with the OE hitch because it has a portion that is designed to fit the mount for the plug that comes on the OE. If you can get by with it just fitting under the bumper, you will need to cut the bumper in the area of the hitch to clear. It's a replaceable part and not the entire bumper.

Draw-Tite had a part in #76403 that included trimming instructions of the fascia, a 1"x 6" cut. But they don't sell that part anymore. They now sell Draw-Tite #76420 and those instructions don't have the trimming in the instructions. So it may be that they just made hang down just a little more.

Just reporting that I had the drawtite 76420 installed today. I told the installers that I heard no cutting was necessary. After install, I noticed that while cutting isn't absolutely necessary, it's probably for the best. See my photos for how it sort of bows out the lower bumper cover slightly. Time will tell if this is an issue or if it cause the trim price to come loose. I'm going to leave it as is for now, but reports that the hitch receiver on the drawtite fully clears the bottom of the rear bumper is not exactly true from my experience.

It's really only noticable if you get down low and take a look, but I'll let the photos speak for themself:
