Alarm system

I have an Optima i double tap the lock button on keys, horn sounds and lights flash.. does the Telluride not do this? The lights flash with barely audible beep is this normal? Windows read it has a security system, however i locked wife in car to test it, she just walked out 3 mins later with no alarm triggered and keys far enough away from vehicle..

I'm unclear about the alarm system as well. I read the manual and it sounds like you have to push the button on the door handle to arm the alarm, which sounds odd and inconvenient to me. I hope I'm misunderstanding that.
