I could have sworn when you fill up gas you open the cap and there was a little metal silver flap/door covering the hole. No?!? And it moves when you put pump in and when pump came out it reset back.

That is how it has looked since the first 2020 models.

Ok! So I traded in my Jeep Grand Cherokee L and it was cap-less so I must be thinking of that car.
