• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Anyone use a hitch cargo box?

Just a bit of FYI...I do not have the hitch box, but rather one of the hitch-mounted cargo baskets. It goes straight out from the hitch and does not curve upwards. We recently took a trip and the exhaust melted through several bungee cords I had used to tie down the load. For the return trip, I used tie-down ratchet straps and steered clear of the exhaust area.

Just be mindful that the exhaust is quite hot in the area, and has the potential to cause some damage.
Definitely something to watch for. I had a cargo basket that had a shank / gooseneck that rose a little but it stuck out far enough that I never had any problems with the exhaust even thought the waterproof back was directly inline with the tailpipes, but if that gooseneck was any shorter, I would have had issues.

I just picked up myself a stowaway carrier for a great price. Some rust on there but that's the next project to remove it all, but I noticed the swing away frame is missing a hole where it inserts into the tow hitch. The website shows 2 holes but this one I got only has one. Is this possibly an older model?

My used Stowaway2 Max with fixed frame had one hitch pin hole. I replaced it with a new swing away frame which came with two holes to offer two options.

Hmmm Mine is a swingaway but only one pin hole. It didn't pose an issue but from the photo you do notice it's not as flush to the vehicle as it seems it should be.

That’s consist with what I see. The older fixed frame I have with the one pin hole is at about 3”. The new swing away frame has a hole at almost 2 3/4” and another at 5 1/2”. In my picture I have it in the fist hole. If I slide it to the second it will be closer to the vehicle.

Thanks for measuring. I'll measure mine tomorrow and see what the numbers are.

Well I measured mine and mine is like your swingframe where the first hole is in the same spot, but I'm missing that 2nd hole altogether. Which one are you using? The hole furthest away from the end? (5")

I found this one on craigslist that only has one hole. Maybe this was the earlier versions.

I’m using the hitch pin hole that lines up most closely to yours. I am going to put my box on tomorrow for a trip and I’ll measure the distance from the Telluride bumper to the square frame on both. Keep in mind that I bought the swing away frame new and I had to drill holes in the box. The frame distances will be a good comparable but I made my best guess as to where to mount the box onto the new frame.

At the hole closer to the frame it is 5” away from the bumper. At the hole further away it is 8”.

Great shout. I'm about to take our first big trip with the truck fully loaded so deciding between roof and hitch storage. Appreciate the intel
