Are there any dealers in So Cal these days going anywhere near MSRP?

Hello,

I'm a new member, and have been diligently reading all I can. This thread in particular was very educational:

Anyway, the wife and I are looking for:

SX AWD
Everlasting Silver or Dark Moss
Tow Package if possible
Prestige we could give or take
No Nightfall

We live in Glendale, CA and of course the dealers around here have been nothing but disappointing. We drove a car that fit the bill today in Carson, CA and they were asking 10k over MSRP. Any advice for someone who lives in this wasteland, seemingly bereft of any reasonable or good deals?

Thanks very much in advance for your advice.

Only one I know in Cali is Hilltop. I’m working with with Raoul.

Dealers can do whatever they like. I've heard that some SoCal dealerships have relented and offered MSRP after painful extended negotiations with customers. If you can deal with that, go for it. If you'd rather not, then find a dealership outside of SoCal :)

July-October I called just about all of them, and none were even close at that time. MyKia in Salinas, Hilltop in Richmond, and Jim Bone in Santa Rosa are the only known dealers that will do MSRP in California. And that is for orders; not inventory vehicles.
I had an amazing experience with Moe at Hilltop, though their waitlist has been growing in size.

I got my SX from Kia of Carson for $1500 over MSRP, which wasn’t far off of what it would have cost me to have it shipped. Basically, it’s not too hard to get them off the $10k dealer adjustment but much harder for them to get off of the other dealer adds (Cilajet, wheel locks are their basic adds. Some others had running boards for a crazy high price like $1500+ can’t remember for sure). I was in more urgent need for a new vehicle so I just went for it. At the time, Kia DTLA had a few SX at MSRP, but they didn’t have the colors that were on the top of my list (Ebony Black, Gravity Gray) with black interiors. Someone on this board reported they had just recently paid MSRP at Kia DTLA as well.

UPDATE: Found a car we were interested in (Silver, SX, AWD, Prestige) at Keyes Kia in Van Nuys. Cruised by there with the intention of just looking at it, left the lot 4 hours later with the car at $500 over MSRP and zero add-ons. Salesperson was a duo of Jonathan and Melanie. In fact, there was even a $500 rebate, so after perusing the contract further, it seems that we ended up essentially at MSRP net. Had spoken to Moe at Hilltop Kia in Richmond, CA and he was definitely down to get an order going for me for a flat MSRP, but his lead time on a similar configuration was 6 months plus. Armed with that data, I found this one in Van Nuys, loved it, haggled, and the wife and I are happy. Did $25k down and the rest at just over 2% APR with the intention of paying it off soon. Great car, so much to discover. A few notes from the day, and some follow-up questions:

- A little concerned about no tow package. Is it easy and relatively affordable to get a third-party to install a different one that hopefully also doesn't protrude too much and/or look terrible?
- The Everlasting Silver/Black combo has a light grey suede headliner, which we ended up finding much more appealing than the black suede headliner in a Dark Moss SX-P.
- A few small spots of clear coat damage (maybe bird droppings?) to the hood, so I have a "verbal due bill" to come in tomorrow to do a further detail and buff on the hood. Fingers crossed that takes care of it.
- They gave us free edge guard for the doors...just a small strip of PPF going around all the door edges.
- I opted out of their extended warranty offer due to the ludicrous pricing ($3500)...can I get one elsewhere for cheaper? I had thought these were well under $2k, but I haven't bought a new car in a couple of years.

Thanks to all of you who chimed in on my newbie thread, and your advice and perspective was really helpful!

Congrats!!! What was their initial markup tho? Just trying to see how much you had to talk them down. From their website they have almost exactly what I want but I don’t need tow or carpet floor mats so that’s already $1,000 over 😩

The initial markup was, yes you guessed it, $10k. Just more utterly unrealistic So Cal Kia insanity. And some other BS as well in the "add-ons" department...four items...all of which we scratched. So with JJ, Melanie and Joe the sales manager, we got 'em back down to earth.

Thanks for this info. Do you happen to have an email contact for either of them? Also, what were the dealer items they were trying to tag on?

I don't, sorry. You should just call over there I suppose. Dealer items were expensive PPF and/or other clear-coat treatment stuff, if memory serves. Whatever it was, it amounted to thousands and my wife and I were uninterested.

No problem, Thanks. I'll give them a buzz.

Crazy with them tacking on thousands of dumb dealer items, though. That's the stuff that makes car shopping a headache.

Indeed. The good news is: you can always turn it down or shop elsewhere. The free market works wonders against this sort of BS.

I found a dealership in San Diego that would order at MSRP but I can’t remember the name. I ended up ordering from Jim Bone Kia in Santa Rosa for MSRP. Communication sucked but I got the car with the good finance rate and no funny business at delivery.

Highly recommend the Stealth hitch, especially if you only use it ocassionally. Completely hidden.

Have you West Coasters tried Nathaly Contreras at NowCar, cs@nowcar.com,786-329-1599

Other forum members have had really good experiences. MSRP and they deliver for free, even help register title and license in your state. Not sure if they service every state though. Call her and report back

Still on the hunt for best deal in California. Doesn’t have to be the best just something near MSRP. Called Kia of Valencia and they do not sell at MSRP. They have put add on and mark it up. Don’t really want to go out of state but may need to. Seems like supply can’t keep up with the demand and don’t see it changing anytime soon.

I had a great experience at Kia of Carson. Paid $75 over MSRP only for my EX. 40k plus taxes and license fees. Came out to around 43,000 or so. They wanted a few thousand over MRSP. I did my homework and stick to what you are willing to pay. I think the main reason is showing up to the dealer and negotiating they will sell at MSRP or close to it. If not walk out the door and take your business elsewhere.
