Only 2 days after purchasing my vehicle the FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance) system saved me!
While driving down a 40 mph street the idiot in front of me decided to slam on their brakes for a couple of guys working on a sidewalk! Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying much attention since I thought all was good (I wasn't traveling at a high rate and I wasn't tailgating anyone), however the Telluride emitted 3 loud beeps and come to an abrupt stop about 2 feet behind the car...all before I had a chance to put my foot on the brake!
I love this car and I wouldn't change a thing (but I did turn off the Lane Keeping Assist..that system is way too aggressive) !
Fast moving deer coming across the the front just may not have given the car enough time to brake. Doesn’t surprise me. BTW, hope mom’s OK.The other day my mother was driving and hit a deer. The front emergency braking did not kick in. Nothing. I realize this isn't your total takeover system. Just a bit surprised.
I don’t know anything about the 54mph. I do know that when SCC and LFA are active, if another vehicle moves into the lane in front of me, my car will decelerate to achieve the right follow distance. I suppose if I got severely cut off, the system might not be able to react quickly enough. What's the deal with the 54 mph max avoidance speed? Does this mean at highway speeds it won't emergency brake to stop you from rear ending someone?
