• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Automatic braking

I have a question regarding the Forward Collision assist. Is it a separate system or part of the SCC because when SCC is off I don't get a detection warning or braking.

You will if you get close enough to the car in front of you at an unsafe speed as long as you don't have it turned off. you can also set the sensitivity of it.

Only 2 days after purchasing my vehicle the FCA (Forward Collision Avoidance) system saved me!
While driving down a 40 mph street the idiot in front of me decided to slam on their brakes for a couple of guys working on a sidewalk! Unfortunately, I wasn't really paying much attention since I thought all was good (I wasn't traveling at a high rate and I wasn't tailgating anyone), however the Telluride emitted 3 loud beeps and come to an abrupt stop about 2 feet behind the car...all before I had a chance to put my foot on the brake!
I love this car and I wouldn't change a thing (but I did turn off the Lane Keeping Assist..that system is way too aggressive) !

The other day my mother was driving and hit a deer. The front emergency braking did not kick in. Nothing. I realize this isn't your total takeover system. Just a bit surprised.

Fast moving deer coming across the the front just may not have given the car enough time to brake. Doesn’t surprise me. BTW, hope mom’s OK.

What's the deal with the 54 mph max avoidance speed? Does this mean at highway speeds it won't emergency brake to stop you from rear ending someone?
I don’t know anything about the 54mph. I do know that when SCC and LFA are active, if another vehicle moves into the lane in front of me, my car will decelerate to achieve the right follow distance. I suppose if I got severely cut off, the system might not be able to react quickly enough.

Love all the safety features--I guess, I read so much about the Telly before we bought ours and I was so excited to try all its features and was prepared (actually welcome) the new technologies included! Yes, disconcerting at times but I was more like a kid inside a toy store, lo! I wonder if anyone experienced pedestrian collision avoidance yet--like that Lexus/Toyota tv ad? Twice I experienced blind spot avoidance collision! Once I was driving on the highway at 65 miles/hour when the minivan next lane veered off towards me and my Telly applied automatic braking that pulled me a tad away from the minivan. This safety feature automatically pinches one side of the wheels (applies some automatic braking relative to the other vehicle's proximity/position) to change the speed and thereby momentarily change the direction of the Telly (we're talking milliseconds here) that pulls you away (inches away--close but no cigar, whew!) from the other vehicle! Wow!

Yesterday I stopped at a shop downtown on a busy street corner. Parking was very limited with spaces at the store front with barely a car lengths distance from the rear bumper to a lot of traffic going by.

As I was leaving, I got several cross traffic warnings while trying to back up. I was not about to back into this busy street and had to carefully saw my way by pulling forward and backing up to get turned around so I could exit. All the camera views came in very handy to make sure I avoided adjacent cars, light poles and traffic as I maneuvered. At one point the 23 Telly braked hard with no warning. With so many obstacles in such tight quarters as well as cars moving past a few feet away, I can only assume the safety system thought I was about to crash into something. It kinda scared me. I double checked my clearance on everything and continued my maneuver to get back on the street.

This was the first time I had braking engage automatically. Though I was being safe and carefully watching my surroundings, it was bit of an eye opener.

On the other hand, I was in heavy traffic one day, got distracted for one second, only to have Telly beep and buzz me back to reality in time to avoid a car that had suddenly braked in front of me.

Love the safety systems and though they can sometimes be a little 'over protective' I am not going to complain.

The maximum avoidance speed is the maximum speed at which the vehicle can still come to a complete stop prior to a pedestrian impact position and avoid an impact.
