Battery disconnect question

I am in the process of installing a DC-DC charger so that the LFP batteries in my T@B camper will charge while I'm towing, and to also prevent any damage to the alternator. The installation requires running a heavy gauge (6-8 AWG) cable from the battery to the charger, for both the hot and ground. To do that, I will need to remove and re-attach the Telly's battery cables.

What happens to the systems in the Telly when the battery is disconnected? Are all the settings lost immediately when battery power is cut, and if so, is there a procedure to re-set everything? Any potential for harm upon reconnection?

After some research, it appears that the easiest solution is to purchase and use an inexpensive Keep Alive Memory tool that plugs in to the OBD2 port. Connecting the tool to a 12V power source will do exactly what the tool's name suggests and preserve all the settings that are in the car's volatile memory.

I haven't replaced a battery in a very long time, so the tool is something new for me. Seems easily worth the ~$15 cost.
