TLDR – I upgraded my Brake Pads to PowerStop Evolution Sport brake pads and saw a huge difference, and I’d highly recommend it if what bothered me, bothers you too.
I used to own a 2021 Telluride SX-P from new to ~50k miles and had no issues with the brakes. In September of 2023, we traded in the 21, and got a 24 of the same car. I don’t know why, but even though it’s the same exact car, I couldn’t get comfortable with the brakes in the 2024 model. The issue I was having is that initial bite on the brakes were much less aggressive and as a result, I felt like I had to push on them harder, and most of the braking would happen deeper into the pedal – leading to braking closer to the car in front. Something I’m not a fan of.
I checked the brake fluid, the brake line and everything seems fine. The brake pedal feels no different than our 2021, so I doubt there are air bubbles or anything in the lines requiring a full brake fluid bleeding. So I ended up ordering PowerStop Evolution Sport pads (which I’ve had very good experience with in the past) and switched the pads out. Took less than an hour for the front two. After that, bedded those brakes in and now a week later – these brakes are performing so much better than OEM! Initial bite is smooth, mid pedal feel is consistent and the stopping power is super linier leading to predictable braking.
I’m writing this so if anyone else has the same issues and is searching for a solution – know you’re not alone, haha! I don’t have any data, but I’d venture a guess that the pad compounds changed from 21 to 24.
Lastly – the torque specs for the caliper bolt is 35 ft/lbs, and the caliper carrier is 87 ft/lbs.
