• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Just picked up my Snow White SX-P AWD.

Long ago I used to remember hearing various bits of advice on how to drive during first X miles because it will effect both performance and efficiency during the life of the engine.

Any rules apply to this car if that is actually a thing?

Congratulations and welcome to the forum!

Here's what's on your Owners Manual

Also....this thread is useless without a pic of your KT :p

Pro tip: even at your first oil change change the oil at the specified interval of every 7500 miles or 12 months. Getting the metal bits out of the engine early is complete nonsense.

Well....I don't think the advice in the manual ( posted previously) is out of line and probably should be followed. That advice frankly is not too much unlike the "break in" advice that I have seen in manuals for the past 20yrs or so. That being the case......changing your oil early ( like after the first 1000 or 2000 miles) probably is not a bad idea either and has been positive advice for many years.....as a matter of fact I know mechanics in the field who have done that with new cars that they have bought. It certainly cannot hurt and if it helps to preserve your vehicle even just bit longer and you can afford to do it........why not do it?

I agree, isn’t that the precise reason for an oil filter, to filter and trap contaminants/particles out of the oil before it’s recirculated back into the engine.

Does it hurt to do an early oil change? No, only in your pocket book, your time and perhaps the environment.

More important than an early oil change, don’t skimp on the quality of the oil filter and oil when servicing the vehicle at the regular maintenance interval. Use OEM filter and high quality oil as specified in the manual.

I received my Telluride on Nov 18. I’m up to just over 4000 miles. I plan to follow the manual‘s recommendation and change my oil at 7500 miles and I plan to use full synthetic oil. My local Kia dealer‘s service manager told me that the 7500 mile recommendation in the manual applies only if you use full synthetic oil although I can’t find anything in the manual to support his claim.

Two months after getting my EX, I received a card from Kia offering a free oil change, the dealer also offers 3 free oil changes in the first year! So I took my vehicle in and had the oil changed at 1500 miles. The service person had never seen this offer and had to call someone further up in the system to ok the deal. I had tried to follow the manuals recommendations for the first 1000 miles, so I sort of feel comfortable with the cars few months. I think it is wise to do everything possible to protect a 40K investment.
