Captains Chairs w/ Toddlers

I'm looking at an EX-P Nightfall edition. I have two toddlers (2.5 years old and 4 years old) and I'm nervous about not having a bench in the back seat. They use the space between them in my 2012 TL and 2013 Highlander as a place to put their books and toys. They pass stuff back and forth all the time and inevitably drop 10 things on a 5 minute trip. Right now with a bench, they can just reach the item themselves. With captains chairs, I'm going to have to reach back and pick that stuff up ALL THE TIME.

Has anyone else been in my position? What did you do? Honestly, it may be such a headache that I don't go with the Premium Package, but, I'm hoping you all found an aftermarket solution (like a mesh net or some sort of stand that I can easily remove when people need to get in the backseat).

Thanks, I thought about this too. Maybe that's the answer ticket. What about if they drop something though? I feel like that happens constantly.

I was thinking about the Captains Chair Seat Gap Cover by Canvasback if I can get it to work between the bottoms of the seats vs. on the back of them.

Having used captain chairs to secure a dog seat similar to a child's seat with a base, they are definitely not as good as a flat bench. The lower bolsters usually cause the base to tilt to one side when cinched tightly.

That would mean giving up LED headlights for very poorly rated halogens, which is a big safety issue and a deal-breaker IMO.

I own the Canvasback seat gap cover and I don't see how it would work with the seats upright and being used. It velcros to the seat back when folded down. I can't come up with any way it would work. But it might be worth a call to them to see if they have another solution.

You might look into something like this. I was looking for something to fill the gaps during camping trips. I mainly focused on while the seats were down, but they should be usable between the back seats - sort of like the "stop gap filler" for the front seats. Just pack them where you want and inflate to meet your needs.

I also mix in this one occasionally, but more for the space in front of those seats.
