If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi All,
Recently joined the group while I am still shopping for the Telluride. Working with multiple dealers but no one is dropping below $5k markup in my state. Then I get a quote from one of the dealers with the VIN of the car and for MSRP. I Google the VIN and the car physically with another dealer marked up $5k. I call the dealer who sent me the quote for clarification and the reasoning I got is they have some trims that the other dealer wants, so they are swapping. Also, they are proud of not marking up this for me.

Is this too good to be true? Will there be any issues with the car?

If you put a deposit on it, make sure it's refundable. Also before driving there, make sure they physically have the car and that you've negotiated price 100% before going to the dealership. We've seen some bait and switches, some screwing around with cars a dealer never had, etc..

Do exactly what raydog said.. Dealers swapping cars is not uncommon. The last 3 trucks I bought were at a different dealerships than the one I bought it from. If they try and screw around, leave. There are other dealerships and Tellurides out there.

Ah, a quote from the "internet sales manager". I would research that dealership on this site - or post name - if people have had good experiences then maybe you can trust them. Definitely follow advice above. You can get window sticker from VIN Lookup Site (Telluride Lookup) and verify the original dealer it was sent to. You can use that site to find other Tellurides you desire too.

I would be highly suspect of dealer trades in this market - no one was trading. What they may do is take your deposit then somehow the trade gets "cancelled" and now they have your deposit to "order" a vehicle. Exercise caution.

If you do go to dealership, you might learn about a non-negotiable dealer add-on package or a "free" lifetime warranty that costs $3k to upgrade.

What others have said.

If you are willing to wait and get exactly what you want, come look at some of the dealers in North Texas, some are on here and some are not, but they are dealing at MSRP, some also ship for not a whole lot of money if you are too far away.

Thank you all for great advise.
Couple of questions:
While all the dealers are selling on a markup why would this dealer lose out on the opportunity?
I could assume following reasons but not sure which one it would be:
1. Getting me into higher finance rate
2. The color and trim is not much desirable (may be)
3. The manufacturing date is sometime in Oct/2019. I see there were some passenger door closure issues, third row A/C vent issues with the cars manufactured last Oct. Not sure if all cars are affected. Could this be a reason for selling me for MSRP? Is there a way to find out the manufacturing date online?

I'd say go in and visit, and see if they present you with a sales contract that reflects MSRP as the vehicle price for that VIN. My guess is they won't and you'll still be negotiating add-ons or warranties. It's silly to speculate until you have a real offer. An email is not a real offer, unfortunately.

Many dealers are selling at MSRP. Many are marking up. There are nearly 800 KIA dealers.

I’ve never heard of anyone dealer trading a Telluride.. this would be first concern.

you may be talking to an “internet manager” whose job is to get you in the door.
Sometimes these personal are new and may think dealer trades are common like any other car produced in the industry.

I would recommend asking to speak with a senior sales consultant or a new car manager.
As others have said then have them put numbers in writing and sent to you.

If all looks good then proceed.

also highly unlikely a October built Telluride is on a lot today.

Just don't do it. It will be 100% a waste of your time. I had many of these guys trying to get me to come in, etc.. when I was on the hunt. I told them no, I'm settling price, etc.. and if you have what I want you will take a deposit via CC over the phone. You want to eventually get to the GSM's who know what they're talking about. I got tired of the low level guys and based on the detailed questions I'd ask, would end up getting to the GSM pretty quickly to find out whether a car really existed and the bottom line pricing. Ultimately how I ended up with mine.

They are hoping you will come in so they can work you over. Before you know it you will be the owner of a brand-new car you didn’t even want. But maybe you can trade it in for a Telluride next year!
