• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
    If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Dealership issue

About a month ago, I took my Telluride in for two recent recalls. Both were software-related, and everything seemed to go fine. However, I later found out that they conducted a 42-point "Multi-point vehicle inspection" without my permission. During this inspection, they recommended servicing the differential and transfer case, including a "COMPLETED DRIVE TRAIN FLUID CHANGE AND SERVICE FRONT DIFF AND TRANSFER CASE." (See attached screenshot.)

I decided not to follow through with this service at the dealership as I thought their price was too high. On the way home, I called my local shop where I usually get my work done, and they quoted me $80 for the same service.

Today, I went to my local shop for an oil change and a regular trip check. I mentioned the dealership's recommendation and asked them to check the drivetrain fluid. While attempting to do that, they noticed that the rear differential plug was stuck. The invoice stated, "REAR DIFF PLUG STUCK." They tried to check the fluid but couldn't remove the bolt.

I'm wondering if the dealership might have incorrectly fastened this plug (which I assume is the drain bolt) during the inspection last month. Has anybody ever experienced something similar?

My plan is to take it back to the dealership and have them do the service they recommended last month. If there indeed is a problem, they will know it was caused by them last month.

If it’s “stuck”. It should be remedied. Is your vehicle still under warranty?
