• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... The wait is nearly over, and the pearl white/Nappa gray SX-P that I ordered on 01Nov finally has a VIN, and an ETA of 18Mar. So now, I'm wondering about what I ought to be looking for when I take possession of the car.

Thanks to this forum, I know to check for overinflated tires, and for excessive miles on the odometer. Having been previously burnt on a new vehicle delivery (long ago, different make) I know to check fluid levels. I already plan to ask them not to wash it, or put dealer stickers/emblems on it.

I seem to remember someone suggesting that the software is not necessarily current, and may need updating, but I haven't been able to locate how to tell what the current version(s) are. Anybody know how?

Any other common problems you found when you picked yours up?

I would closely inspect for panel gaps on the body, and if you find any, ask if it is within intolerance and have them fix it if it's not.

Really the only gripe about my Telluride is the fact that there are 2 wide panel gaps on the driver side, which I plan to bring up during my first oil change.

Thanks, “luv”... I would never have thought of that! It’ll go right onto the checklist!

It's really kind of disappointing as I've never had this issue in the past when buying Honda, Acura Toyota, Nissan, and Lexus.

Really enjoying the SXP ride, but I found the following post delivery:

1) hood panel gap
2) burn or stain marks on front passenger & driver side ceiling material near hand grab handles
3) fuel tank cover slightly mis-aligned when closed
4) tires were overinflated to 47psi...deflated to 36psi now
5) middle seat passenger door side window trim slightly mis-aligned
6) most importantly, FCA false warnings started coming up with less than 1k miles

Will need to address issue 1, 2, 3, & 6 soon.

I worked for a dealership when I was younger and used to check in vehicles as they came off the transporter trucks. I have seen it all, believe me. So when I took delivery of my Telluride last week, I did a walk around of the entire vehicle, including checking the roof for any damage. Delivery was at night, but I have a flashlight on my keychain. I am glad I checked it out because I found damage on the rear quarter panel from what looked like a stone chip and some small scrapes that actually took off some paint. I also found scrapes on the lower part of the bumper. I pointer out the damage to the dealer and they immediately wrote up a work order. The next day they called me to bring the vehicle back and they had it through their body shop and fixed in 2 days. They also ordered a new rear bumper which they will install on Monday. The damage was very minor, but on a new $50K vehicle you should not accept any damage of any kind. Good luck and congrats on your new vehicle.

Delivery inspection questions:
1. Why don't you want your car to be washed?
2. Can you post pictures to show what wide panel gaps are?

I had them not do the wash on mine due to having a clear bra installed later. The installers don't want them putting a buffer or anything to the new paint, it could add some imperfections that they would then have to go back and fix, less work for them. They will completely wash the car and get it spotless for the clear bra attachment. Same goes for when they want to do a ceramic coat.

Same reasoning for me regarding washing. It was luvcats69 who found panel gaps....

Resurrecting this post as I'm preparing for pickup soon. It's been awhile since I've ordered a vehicle so I appreciate the advice.

Question: Once you walk around and inspect the vehicle, how do you handle minor imperfections? For example, if you find a ding or an upholstery mark, do you avoid signing the paperwork until it's corrected? Or do you get agreement to repair but still proceed to take ownership?

Any other pickup advice appreciated.

Great question. It’s the latter. They need to give you paperwork stating that they will repair the imperfection.

You are looking for a "we owe" form to be filled out and signed by all. Do not let them say "someone will sign for us later" Keep a copy, take a picture of your copy, do not lose your copy!

Also take photos of the imperfections. Good advice!

How would this work in an arrive-and-drive situation? I'm likely going to be ordering my Telluride from out of state. Would anything noted at pickup be able to be addressed by a dealer when I got home?

here to each his own, everyone chooses for himself. You can refuse the car. You can ask for compensation. You can agree on the elimination of defects. But everything must be documented. I wrote here as if I missed it for joy, now I suffer.

On a related note, I've asked for as much of a contactless pickup as possible. They dealer was very understanding and accommodating of that. They sent me all the paperwork in advance. That has the added benefit of allowing me to take my time reading it, without being in the finance office or any added pressure. I'll just bring it in when my car is ready, inspect the car, and then hand the signed paperwork to them at that point. I'm thinking this will make for a quicker, safer, easier pickup.

That is a great idea. I’ll do the same.
