• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi All - just wanted to update my experience with Kia dealership in Kuwait. I booked Telluride 2023 model with full options without captains chair which as per Kuwait Kia portal is SX option (SX+ is top most option with captains seats in the 2nd row with heated & ventilated rear seats). The entire buying experience was so confusing for me since the entire paperwork & sales talk happened with internal reference code which had no connection with the trim levels mentioned on the website.

I made sure that the interior that I will get for the Midnight Blue color which I booked will be Grey (which is actually off-white) - same as per the demo car in the showroom which was Red color exterior. In my all 3 visits I was told that I would get the exactly same interior. Today I went to take the delivery of the car to find that the interior was black. Delivery section is 4 km away from the main showroom. When delivery section called up the salesman, he told us that the Grey (off-white) interior is only available for mid option (supposedly EX) & isn't available in full option (SX). This was a disaster for me since one of the prime reason for me was the availability of off-white interior as my wife is claustrophobic and we didn't want black interior.

When I went to the showroom & met the General Manager, he confirmed that there are two colors in full option (SX) with grey (off-white) interior - Everlasting Grey & Jungle Green and offered me to make the choice for replacement. I was surprised at this - why would salesman give wrong information after failing to be careful in the first place?? It means that I will have to wait 4 more days minimum to be inside my new car and that I will be driving Jungle Green and not the Blue which I selected first (this would not be a big problem as I was on the edge for choosing between these two).

At least in Kuwait, buying experience with Kia is extremely poor. Salesman doesn't know proper English, internal references for the vehicle trims don't correlate with what is mentioned on the portal, paperwork is not clear mentioning interior options & features correctly (they don't mention about Harman Kardon speakers in the features list, no mention of whether it will be Napa leather or only Leather). Even the color names for Everlasting Silver & Grey are used interchangeably on portal & pdf broacher on the middle east portal.

I hope that I get the final confirmation tomorrow for the option I want chose & get the delivery of the car with the choice of interior I want. I also hope that he gives some extras for the inconvenience that I have to go through.

Any ideas if there is a fallback option with the manufacturer for such blunders by the dealership? In Kuwait, local laws offer hardly any help to expats.

I think about your only option is to refuse delivery and insist the dealer supply a car that meets your expectations. Is there another dealer with whom you could do business?

Thanks! In Kuwait, there is only one dealer of any brand. They have accepted to replace the car with nominal compensation cash back - probably will cover 30% of insurance cost.

Best of luck to you!

You really don’t custom order cars anymore. The dealership gets the closest one that meets what you ordered. You can either take the one they get first or have to wait longer.

You mean Kia/Asian cars. European cars can still be custom ordered.

Orders are also possible in the USA. I have one on order. It has my name on it and all the paperwork is in my name. It has a VIN and I’m able to track its delivery status with that number. When demand was higher, it might not have been possible to order a car, but now it is.

It wasn’t a custom order. I selected from the available stock which salesman confirmed to be of Grey (off-white) interior. However, it turned out to be black.

Not the case at all with KIA, and other makes. One CAN indeed custom order a KIA, just have to wait in the queue for the vehicle to be manufactured and delivered. We custom ordered our Telluride, waited about three months, have been very pleased with all our choices/options.
