• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... My wife's Telluride is on order to arrive who knows when, but i'm already planning on what to do to it.

For everyone who has dipped their grill, how is the dip lasting? I dipped side vents on my car and it's lasted several years, but I figure that some on the front of the car might not last as long.

I am in that same boat, I have 8 projects lined up for it and it hasnt even arrived at the dealer lol.

So I dipped my entire car previously. Did an entire mini cooper S. Ran it with that color for about 3 years without any issues. The most important thing is do a lot of layers. the more layers the more durable it is and easy to peel down the line if it needs replacing. I did 3 coats of white and then 4 coats of green and it worked well.

Wow, that is a labor of love to do the whole car. If it lasted on the whole car then the grill should be fine with several layers. Thanks for the info.

I wanted a Mini Cooper for my first car but it didn't happen.

It wasn't as bad as it seemed. Just taped off the top half and got an electric sprayer. Between prep and spraying it took about 7 hours and a mean sun burn lol. There's a "pre dip" spray on dipyourcar.net that I recommend. Helps prep the surface for a better bond

I'll have to get that pre-dip. I was on the fence on whether i wanted to buy the nightfall grill for $600. It's slightly different that just blacking out the regular grill, but not different enough to pay the extra, but it's still an option if i don't like the dip. I only plan on dipping the grill right now....i like the idea of some chrome to keep the car from being so dark.

What other plans do you have? I mod my cars, but not my wife's. I only have the grill and Kia badging planned.

Going to rip the exhaust off and gloss black the exhaust tips since everything else on the car is black, it annoys me that they didnt do that for the nightfall package so gonna fix that

Got the badging K swap for wheels and front and back.

Got Red "K" logo MGP caliper covers

Gotta see it in person but I might be painting the nightfall grille, some pictures it looks matte black and if it is I am going to pop the honey comb part off and gloss black that

Adding the Vent screens to the lower grilles (not really a mod but sorta?)

Ceramic coating (maybe not a mod?)

PPF full front

Possibly..... possibly rip off all the plastic trim along the bottom of the car, sand it smooth and then prime it and body color match it so its all ebony black.... Idk if I want to get into that mess hahaha.

biggest difference between a dip and a Nightfall(it think it's a decent value), that:

a) it is factory painted (all the chrome pieces not just badges and grill)
b) won't peel or fade like aftermarket "dipped" stuff

dip wont fade if you put the UV protectant on it. If applied correctly it wont peel either, as mentioned above with my experience on the entire car.

I dipped mine about 4 months ago and have had no problems. No chips, cracks, nothing. The lower vents in did have a rock chip, but its minimal. I used the Hyper dip line

The grille on the nightfall is what they call "argent". Its a dull, slightly metallic, very dark grey (looks like dull black). I too wish it was gloss black. I might get mine professionally painted gloss black but for now I do a time consuming wipe on of chemical guys VRP. This darkens and shines the plastic for a while before needing done again.

You used the Shadow Black, correct?

Yes.

Has anyone put a ppf clear bra Over a wrapped or dipped surface?

Since the surface is now covered, I can't see why you would want to do that?

I was thinking I needed the ppf for protection vs the wrap/dip for the looks
