If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Some vehicles with HUDs require a special, much more expensive windshield if the car needs the windshield replaced (compared with the non-HUD version).

Does anyone know if this applies to the Telluride?

Thanks!

Not the craziest question though, but from a cost standpoint... I wouldn't care a whole lot since insurance would cover it unless you break windshields all the time. I had a HUD on a Grand Prix GTP (first car I purchased after college), it was awesome btw but did require a different windshield and was way more expensive to repair (I believe it was about 3-4x the cost to replace at the time if it needed replacing). However, it was the last thing I ever thought about. I'd imagine the technology is better 20 years later.

Where things get crazy expensive and complicated are in the heated and insulated windshields on some vehicles (optional on most of them as well). Porsche, Ferrari, Range Rover, Jaguar, etc. offer them as options. In those cases, the other thing that comes up is the heated windshield means you almost always need an external transponder on your front license plate for things like gate openers and ezpass/ipass. It would be tricky for me since I have a transponder for the gate for my community to get in the neighborhood, and would need ipass for tolls. I'm sure I'd have to hook up 2 of those license plate transponder thingys to the front which would be wonky...but whatever.

Hmmm...I don't know the answer, but I did notice that the windshield in our SXP says HUD on the label.

Also, not sure if this applies to the windshield or not, but I remember our salesman telling us that the SX had an additional layer in the glass making the interior quieter.

I had a HUD in my 92 (I think) Grand Prix. I believe it only had the speed and maybe the turn signal indicator on it. There was some sort of caution msg printed to remind the driver to occasionally check the dash for other information :-) I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever had on a car and I cannot wait to have it again on my Prestige :-)

The answer is yes. Part #86110S9030. MSRP $1250 USD compared to $617 USD for Non HUD version.

Enjoy the ride.

I'm with you here. It was awesome. I had a 98 Grand Prix GTP. Showed MPH, radio station/CD track, turn signals, high beam indicator, low fuel, and a warning/check gauge if there was an issue. It was a great safety feature since you didn't have to take your eyes off the road very much. My other favorite feature on the GTP was the boost gauge that showed how much boost the supercharger was giving.

I'm pretty anxious to get the HUD when I get my SX-P after not having it for about 15 years. Yet another nice thing about this car.

I had a 16 year old son at the time, he talked me into driving it every chance he could get...maybe he could tell you about that boost gauge. Now I have a 16 year old grandson who will not be telling anyone info based on first hand experience of driving my Telluride...Bad Grandma :)

Hmmmm...

With the windshield cracking issue - wonder what the ratio is between HUD windshield vs non-HUD windshields that are cracking...

I had an HUD on my '11 Buick LaCrosse. Had one chipped windshield due to construction on I-95. Got it replaced by via a claim with the insurance.

I am not sure it has anything to do with HUD more than the fact that the windshield is Acoustic Glass....hence the price difference

At first glance it may seem that way. However there are 3 windshield assemblies available for the Telluride. Each contain acoustic film. However, the 3rd one contains special optics (magnified) for the HUD. More details here. 2020 Kia Telluride Windshield Glass - Kia Parts Now

Enjoy the ride! BTW... thanks so much for your service!
