So ended up with a Telly at a great price. Seems prices have dropped a lot at some dealers and other dealers are not wanting to work at all on price even though demand seems to be lower than supply right now. But got an awesome price from a local dealer but had to sign a non disclosure so cant say anything else about it which is a shame. But put it this way another person paid $7k more than us as we were there buying ours as they didn't haggle at all. It's the wife's car in the end but some of these dealers really need to learn about the products they are selling. it's pretty sad that with just a couple hours reading about the vehicle I knew more than the sales guy whos been doing it 12 years. They were trying to show us how good the sound system on the car is with sirius radio too. didn't know that was still a thing cars sales people did. it sounded awful! They were also boasting about how quick it is too. The guys telling my wife to floor and she does and it hardly feels like it's moving! Just a weird dated experience overall with this dealer. She's there to buy a SUV not a sports car with thumping sound system.

Since the OP can't discuss the details, we can play "Guess the details". Here are my guess:

1. Dealer couldn't sell a WG SX off of the lot with $7k mark up. OP walks in, shows interest but wouldn't bite on $7K. "Accidentally" shows the next guy buying at 7K mark up. Gives the OP a whopping $5K discount, shakes hand and deal done. Dealer wants to sign a non-disclosure so OP can not talk about 2K markup.
2. Since brand new Telluride hardly sell under MSRP, dealer had a reason to sell this particular one at a great price. Dealer wouldn't sell one at a significant discount knowing they can sell one with $7K markup. ND signed so the "reason" can not be discussed on public.

All joking aside, if you are happy with the deal you got, I am happy for you. Telluride is worth what you are willing to pay for it. Congratulation on your purchase and you picked the best color.

I was happy to get my Telly at MSRP with a $400 Military Veterran discount. I was willing to drive a rental 10 hours one-way for the car I wanted and at that price.

Except customers aren't "taken." They make their own choices. The NDA sitch is odd as heck, but if people want to do no research and make no phone calls, then they have taken themselves.

Oh yes they are. If I am selling something to one customer for $10, and then another customer walks in and wants to buy the same thing, but I deem this second person uninformed and therefore "stupid", so I sell to this person for $15. And I tell the first customer to not say anything since he saw what happened. This makes me a shady businessman, and I just took advantage of somebody.

And really, what ever he signed is likely BS. Chances that the dealer would hire a lawyer and sue him for violating some NDA are right at zero. If a dealer wanted to sell me that car at 3K under MSRP if I signed some NDA I'd do it for sure then laugh about it as I was leaving the dealership.

A dealership would never be able to uphold an NDA in the court of law nor would they be able to prove you spoke out about it, this is a pure scare tactic. So you're saying you paid $7k under MSRP?

I'm not worried what anyone thinks. if I did I wouldn't have bought her a Kia lol. Actually wanted my wife to get a Model X but she's not keen on the styling but she does really like the telluride and saved a ton of cash over the X. But goes to show that pricing is all over the place on these things. I have since had a couple of dealers call me back saying they willing to negotiate who originally said they wouldn't budge.
