• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... With the temps dropping down to freezing/below freezing - the engine seems loud at first startup for a while. I know the direct injection motors tend to be louder in the cold, but just wondering if anyone else has noticed this? We came from a 2011 Honda Pilot that, like all vehicles, was louder when it was cold, but the Telly seems even louder? Inside is always quiet and comfortable as always. No check engine lights or anything like that - It may just be me being used to the older Honda engines - my 2011 accord is DI as well and is pretty loud when it's cold on first startup.

Anyways, just looking for some input - I realize "loud" is hard to quantify 😀

use a decibel sound level meter app on your phone next time and post your reading.

At the top of driver's tire ambient measured at 53-58db (depending on wind) - engine running was 80-87db

Just bumping this again here - It sounds like this is normal for the GDI engine when it's cold - it sounds almost like a diesel engine until it warms up. Inside the cabin you'd have no idea it was loud though. You'd only hear it if it was remote started and you walked up to it before it had warmed.

I'd love some input from others all the same!

I downloaded a sound level meter app to test this out but I always remote start and keep forgetting to check. 😁 Will update when I have results.
