Extended Warranty - Deal, or No Deal?

So I just bought a 2021 SX Kia Telluride Nightfall Edition prestige package was offered the extended warranty for 10 years 0 deductible for $1835. The company they use is called Assurant... they assure me that this company is the best as far as warranties go...
Should I buy it or look around for better pricing?
Tell them for 1500 you will. You can get one from Muncie for a bit less than 1500

You can get a better price than that for the same length warranty from Kia of Muncie IN indiana. Call Craig and tell him Kim told you to call. I just got a warranty through him on Saturday. You don't have to buy your car from them to get the premium policy for about $400 less.

and I thought I was patience at 7 months.
I got impatient. But don't give up. I did fun things that seemed to put me closer to getting it. Ordered Smartliner mats. Then ordered Canvasback cargo and back seat liners. They all came before the car did.

this will not effect how I get treated at this dealership when something does go wrong with my telly? If I get my warranty from another party(dealership) or another extended service company, will it effect how I get serviced? will they honor what in my extended warranty?

No, Kia has to honor it no matter where you live. It's Kia's warranty. But call Craig at Muncie and he will answer all these questions for you. I bought mine there, but live in NC.

The new car warranty is indeed Kia’s and should be honored by any Kia dealer. The extended “warranty,” on the other hand is not backed by Kia and will be honored in accordance with the contract. Indeed, these extended warranties are not warranties at all, but are service contracts where the issuing companies promise to cover the cost of repairs assuming all conditions are met. Note the distinction.

I got a chuckle as Kia EE is called Kia Distinction. :D

I did a full night of research on this Fidelity Warranty. I am choosing to forego and self insure. I read numerous reviews, watched a bunch of you-tube videos and although I do not have a singe "smoking gun", there were enough disappointed warranty customer whom were denied due to the exclusionary elements of this warranty. I would rather take the 10% chance will need it (Kia has good quality and a strong manufacture warranty) . Than the 85% chance I will be frustrated and disappointed with a unethical extended warranty firm (aka - pissed off). I was also "suspect" because they would not allow my to review the contract (actual terms, not promotional material) prior to signing ceremony. Three walk always 1.) Beware and exclusionary contract unless you are a Kia mechanic and know all the things that fail. 2.) Remember to ask what the deductible is per incident. 3.) Remember 70% of extended warranties are never used.

*** update***
I just spent an hour reading the 12 page contract shared in the post. Honestly, I was surprised the language was not that one sided. They do call out a lot of exclusions, but nothing too unreasonable. If you have to cover the service of these vehicles you need to ensure the owners follow the rules and provide scheduled and appropriate maintenance in accordance with KIAs direction. (seems fair). The default deductible is $100, so you will be paying that for any issue.

The proof is in the pudding, FWS could be the most benevolent and selfless service contract provider ever, or they could be greedy selfish bastards. The contract did not disclose either.

WE NEED KIA OWNER'S WHO HAVE HAD EXPERIENCE WITH FWS TO SHARE THIER EXPERIENCES ON THIS FORUM. I will wait till 4,999 miles before I go back to the dealer with the best offer. All the while hoping for a KIA and FWS customer to chime in on this thread and give me personal examples of how FWS responded to their needs. Honestly forum like this are deadly to poorly run companies together we are stronger.

I respect your decision on not purchasing, but who is they? Fidelity may not have the information readily available but contract information is out there if you look around. Here is a link to the terms pdf. I am sure your dealer will provide the same information if you asked. Personally speaking, I bought the EW for peace of mind. I expect electronics these days are reliable enough that I will never use the warranty. If something breaks and Fidelity denies a claim, I will cancel and get a prorated refund and call it a good day. 1. I agree and everyone should read the terms, 2. Kia Distinction Platinum is 10y/100k/$0 deductible, 3) I hope I never have to use the warranty. :)

I respect your decision to purchase a warranty but to refer to it as a KIA warranty is misleading. You purchased a Fidelity warranty on a KIA vehicle.

I have never purchased a new vehicle that did not have a manufacturer extended warranty offered. Why doesn’t KIA have their own extended warranty? Maybe they believe their vehicles are dependable and it isnt worth the effort to sell additional coverage because the costs of selling and administrating the program would outweigh the benefits to KIA.

Everyone has to make their own decisions but I never buy extended warranties

It's Kia branded warranty that gets support from most Kia dealerships. That is the name of the warranty whether it's covered by 3rd party or not. Most of the manufacturer's extended warranty is covered by 3rd party. Most manufacturers, including Kia, does not sell their own warranties because they are in the business of building and selling cars. They are not an insurance company. EW, in core essence is an insurance.

I've never purchased EW on my previous vehicle purchases and was on the "EW is never worth it" bandwagon. It is certainly your decision on purchasing one. You should read all the details before you purchase it if you are serious about it. $1500 to cover navigation for 7 years comes out to $18/month. Some people blow more than that on coffee. If something other than power train breaks after 6y/60k, I am covered for 4 more years. I hope I never have to use the EW, but if they cover one item then it would be worth while. It made sense for me as I plan to keep the telly for a long time.

This is one of those decisions of course that every person will have to make for themselves based upon their needs and concerns. I don't and won't ding anyone for deciding one way or the other; I just know what works for me. For me, living out in the country where the nearest large town is 35 miles away, I will easily put over 100k on this car while it's still within the regular warrenty period. But beyond that, if you look at the Consumer Affairs report someone posted earlier in this thread about, in this case Fidelity Warrenty, the overall rating is 1-1/2 stars. Gotta wonder why? This guy is, in my opinion, right on:

Also, Kevin Hunter is a guy I've been subscribed to for a long time and he mentions Extended Warrenties in this video "10 Products: DO NOT BUY at a Car Dealer". (Lots of great onfo on how to save money, but the EW info he saves for the last (item #10).

I have purchased many new cars over the years, including a new Corvette, and have never purchased an extended warranty (though every dealer has tried to sell me one) and I have never regretted that decision. Your milage may vary.

What do you mean by KIA branded? Fidelity prints KIA in big letters on the policy? What does KIA the manufacturer have to do with it? Nothing, they accept payment from Fidelity just like they would if you were in an accident and State Farm payed all but your deductible to the dealer. Fidelity decides what they will pay not KIA.

KIA decided to pay for broken windshields because they determined the ones they used were not holding up for their customers. Who’s to say they won’t do the same thing if they determine the electronics were not giving their customers good service.

I think too much is made of the possibility that electronics are apt to fail. Self driving cars are already on the road and any manufacturer who doesn’t believe the electronics will hold up are going to be sued out of business by lawyers.

I would disagree that most manufacture warranties are covered by third party insurance companies. They sell the warranty and make all the decisions on what’s covered.

The decision to buy these things is indeed a personal one. While I don't typically buy "extended warranties," and didn't buy one on my Telluride, I do understand the "peace of mind" argument, and certainly these must payoff handsomely for some. That said, note that 3rd party extended warranties aren't "warranties" at all. Rather, they are service contracts. The difference is subtle but important.
