• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... With all the discussion about whether or not the Kia Extended Warranty is worth it, I can say that it more than paid for itself today. For those of you who chose not to purchase an extended warranty, for whatever your reasons, please don’t use this thread to troll and knock those of us who chose to do it. This isn’t a debate about whether or not to get a warranty. I’m just offering an example of how (in my case) my warranty has paid for itself and then some. The debate about whether or not to get a warranty is in a different thread. 😁

For a few weeks now I have noticed that when I turn on my left lane blinker the camera view of the left lane has been blurry and wobbly and the camera view has flashed in and out of focus. Then two days ago after starting up my car, all of the instrument panel safety device icon warnings came on the instrument cluster and after driving a few hundred yards they began blinking on and off. I pulled into a restaurant parking lot and turned off the engine and waited a few seconds. After about 30 seconds, I restarted the car and again all of the safety warning icons, began flashing on and off in the instrument cluster but didn't turn off. I decided to just keep driving and ignore the warning lights, since it seemed like some sort of panel or cluster shortage (as they were all turning on and off randomly). About a half mile down the road the the icon warning lights turned off, and I then noticed that when using my left lane turn signal, suddenly the lane view picture seemed crisper and clearer that it had been the previous few weeks. It wasn’t wobbly anymore.

Today at my 67,500 service check and oil change. I mentioned it to my dealer service rep. She informed me that they would have to do a diagnostic test at a cost of $145 and since my car was past the 60,000 mile standard warranty, whatever was wrong would probably no longer be covered by my standard warranty. I informed her that I had an Extended Warranty I had purchased through Kia of Muncie when I purchased my car. She said she would still have to check and see if there was a problem (after the diagnostics test) and THEN confirm whether or not it would be covered by the Kia EW.

She did confirm that there was faulty electronics in the left driver-side mirror camera lens, and that the blurry lane view I was getting when using my left lane turn signal was related to the safety warning lights that went off on the instrument cluster on Tuesday. She also informed me that it was all completely covered by my extended warranty. She said it will take about two weeks to get the new mirror in because it has to be painted to match my vehicle. The complete cost (including diagnostic test, parts, painting materials, painting labor and labor to install the new mirror) would be completely covered by the warranty. In this instance, the cost to replace this whole electrical failure is definitely more than the price I paid for my EW; and I still have about 53k more miles left on it.

So for those of you contemplating purchasing the warranty, no one has a crystal ball to predict when something that is covered by the warranty may go wrong. But in my case, the Kia of Muncie warranty was comprehensive and more than paid for itself today. Like any insurance policy, you pay for it and you never know if you’ll need it. There’s always the question about whether you’ll get your moneys worth. But it certainly is satisfying when the insurance policy you paid for pays for itself and then some! This is the first time I've paid for an EW for anything I've ever bought. And I'm super happy I purchased it through Kia of Muncie with Lucas and Craig. I paid for the "top tier" (Platinum Level).

I'm curious to know if anyone else has had to make a claim on their EW and can share their story for those debating about buying the policy. Was it worth it for you?
