In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I had never thought about buying a KIA then I was forced into this tough market of buying a car after my wife's died. I was looking for a mid size SUV and after reading reviews and safety it was clear the Telluride was THE car. Then I found out that actually buying one at a decent price was going to be tough. So, I have a decision to make in the next couple hours on this deal.

2021 Telluride SX+Prestige AWD
Dark Moss
Black interior

MSRP on website is 49,320. First offer was 53,320. I told them no way I was paying 4 grand over MSRP. Did some looking around here in CT and boy, very few SX to be had and the ones that were had a 10 grand markup. I told guy, I felt like I was being screwed and that I thought it was bad business charging customers 4 grand over MSRP and the manager came back and said that was firm. I said, thanks but no thanks. So was trying to figure out what was next when sales guy called back and said they would do it for 1,500 over MSRP. Any feedback? Seems like on this model and trim it's what the going rate is, especially here in high priced CT and maybe a price increase coming for the 2022s. Anyway, thanks for any thoughts!

I vote yes. There is still value in that price, and you get immediate delivery.

2 weeks ago I was working every dealer that had a SX Nightfall across the country, and could not get anyone to come lower than 6. After days of negotiation, I stopped. Even had one or 2 that came down to $4k over MSRP, but then jacked it up more as I got ready to sign. For $1500 over, I would buy if you 1) Need the car now, and 2) are set on the Telluride.

I ended up finding a private party sale on a 2021 fully loaded for $53k. They had added tint, mats, and ceramic coating, so I felt fine paying over MSRP on a used one (used = 800 miles). Saved myself tax as well since it's private party.

If it's the package you want in the color combo you like, I think $1,500 over MSRP is reasonable for not having to wait. It's a 3% premium to pay for getting it now. In this Telluride market, I think that's decent.

If you need it right away, ok, yes for $1500. If you can wait - find a dealer who will order exactly what you want at MSRP (there are many). PS: if you’re military or a vet, after they agree on a price, say “oh by the way, I’d like to get my $400 military KIA discount .

Thanks everyone, very excited! Pulled the trigger, it had everything I wanted and I really like the color, although that's not as important to me. Thanks for the feedback, amazing how end of the month helps the negotiating.

If you need a vehicle right now, that's not actually bad, considering most makes are over MSRP right now due to this madness. If you can wait on an order you would be getting a 22 and can find one at MSRP, even thought that may be higher than the 21's.

Here's a way to think of it: If MSRP was $1500 higher and they sold it to you for MSRP, would you think twice about it? I'm guessing you'd be fine with that, as the Telluride is already a good value for the price. If that's the case, then don't sweat paying the dealer markup - it's the same net to you. Too many people get hung up on principle and lose sight of the real value (to them) for the dollar. For some, paying over MSRP is a good value because the car is worth the money to them. For others, even under MSRP would be a bad value because it just doesn't fit their usage requirements. Try to focus on the total cost to you and the value for that cost, rather than a perceived "deal" vs MSRP. Good luck!

No Dune Brown Nappa Leather seats + a markup for nothing?

Hard pass for me, but it’s not my decision.

I have the same reaction to ticket scalpers and California gas taxes
