If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I've contacted 4 KIA dealers in my area. 3 are marking up the the Telluride $4-$5000 above MSRP. 1 dealer is not but are forcing you to buy a "protection" package which is an interior warranty and windshield protection warranty. Essentially interior and glass coatings with a warranty for 5 years for $1895 non-negotiable. They said all the cars at this dealer have this add-on and I cant order one in without it. They would also include door edge guards, pin striping and lifetime free car washes. Seems like a bad practice but they said this is common among all KIA dealers. First time I heard of this after talking to 3 other dealers. Has anyone else ran into this?

It’s all BS and you just have to decide if you want it now or wait for MSRP. You can order out of area/state. Keep calling around or look in the good dealer thread.

Kia’s biggest problem is that a lot of their dealers are garbage.

I have experienced it, and it's negotiable. These add-ons cost the dealer nothing. It's mostly profit. At the end of the day, my dealer had a price he wanted to sell the car for, which is above MSRP. Once you know what this price is, then you can negotiate. For the dealer forcing you to buy the protection package, he/she is effectively pricing the car at $1895 above MSRP. If you are willing to pay above MSRP, then you can negotiate down from that markup and without any of the add-ons. You have to show that you are serious, and you should hold firm.

If you can afford to wait, then time is on your side. The prices will come down, the competition will catch up, we all will have choice. Try not to make it an emotional decision. Except if it is for your spouse, then spare no expense on him/her :)

Good luck,
Z.

IMO a dealership that requires the purchase of these BS add ons are so dishonest that they instantly lose my business. I am about to receive my SX in a couple of days and i have yet to visit the dealer. Even the test drive vehicle was driven to my house.

There are 3 dealerships in my area. One had $5000 worth of BS added to an already padded MSRP, one had a $1500 addendum to the inflated MSRP and one had an SX to my liking due to arrive in a week, but his MSRP was about $3500 over MSRP. All three dealers had "fees" tacked on in their small print. I chose to put a deposit down on the SX en route. I managed to get one of the fees removed completely, I negotiated for an additional $1000 on my trade, and got $900 in bonuses. I still paid over MSRP but reasonable in today's market.

Use your internet and phone and search for a more honest dealership keeping in mind they all are taking advantage of the popularity of this vehicle.

Dealer add-ons are bogus and completely worthless. They don't add any value whatsoever on resale. Whenever a salesperson tells me that they add value on resale, I immediately ask them where on Kelly Blue Book or Edmunds I can select the add-ons when determining how much my trade-in is worth. The answer is always .

I’m in CA, and I did pay over MSRP. I feel the price is what the market will bear and I’ve watched the Telluride fly off the lot for a year now. Dealerships are in business to make money and what I see there, is people in my community trying to earn a living. With the shutdown in Calif, I’m very worried about the economy and worried for the local business owners, salespeople trying to make their rent, landlords counting on those people so they can pay the mortgage. I wasn’t happy when I noticed that the price they quoted was several thousand over the sticker price. But I wasn’t financing and they gave me a very fair price on my trade in. We negotiated the out the door amount down by about $1200. I don’t negotiate for bragging rights. I also don’t buy a car as an investment or even worry much about the resale value. I think about the number of years I’m going to drive and enjoy it; then decide if it’s worth it to me. Honestly, with so much uncertainty in the market right now, I like having that money in hard assets right now ... like a dependable car.
